Final Words and conclusion

Final words and conclusion

Admittedly, whenever I seem to think you can't invent something new with a mouse or keyboard, Corsair does manage to surprise me again. Here's a reality I use mechy keyboards for gaming and a dome-based keyboard for typing and work, typing articles ins specific. When typing I like more actuation force, with gaming a little less. The Corsair K70 MAX keyboard introduces a range of new features that above all enhance configurable typing/gaming experiences for its users. With the ability to configure individual profiles, users can easily fine-tune the key resistance to their preferences. The addition of MGX switches significantly improves keyboard acoustic performance, providing a more silent typing experience compared to previous versions.

Yeah, one of the standout benefits of the K70 MAX is the reduction in noise from the keys, making it less distracting in a quiet environment. Despite lacking G keys and a USB hub, the keyboard feels refined and advanced in its evolution of keyboard development. Some users may appreciate the RGB lighting effects, but others might find it overwhelming. However, the iCUE functionality allows users to customize the lighting to their liking, choosing specific colors for individual keys or regions. The inclusion of PBT keycaps adds to the overall durability and quality of the keyboard. Additionally, users can save their profiles and macros on the keyboard's ARM processor for offline activation. While the K70 MAX offers a variety of improvements, it may not justify an upgrade from older K70 models. The absence of a USB pass-through port and the desire for more USB ports may leave some users wanting additional connectivity options. Overall, the Corsair K70 MAX is a versatile and efficient keyboard that suits various needs, providing a comfortable typing experience with advanced customization options. The integration of MGX switches, iCUE functionality, and per-key programmable lighting make it a compelling option for tech-savvy users seeking a high-quality keyboard. Stuff like 8000hz polling rates ... well, I'll leave that to you to decide on importance.

RAPIDFIRE Dynamic Actuation Mode for MGX Switches

Shortly before the embargo lift Corsair passed along this new feature. RAPIDFIRE is under development to enhance the actuation and responsiveness of MGX switches. This technology is CORSAIR’s version of what is generally referred to as Rapid Trigger. Unlike traditional setups with fixed actuation and reset points, RAPIDFIRE's dynamic mode registers a keystroke as soon as a downward press is detected and resets once an upward lift is sensed. This mechanism permits a more efficient keypress repetition rate relative to conventional keyboards.

The RAPIDFIRE integration will occur in two phases:

  1. Firmware update: Expected release by the end of August.
  2. Software update: Projected release in Q4.

To utilize RAPIDFIRE on the K70 MAX through firmware:

  • Ensure the K70 MAX is updated to the latest firmware that supports RAPIDFIRE.
  • Navigate to iCUE, select K70 MAX, opt for the Device Settings tab, and then select "Check for Updates" to acquire the current firmware.
  • After the update, the WIN LOCK button can be used to toggle RAPIDFIRE on or off

Aesthetics

Aside from switches, when technically comparing the older K70 models and the updated MAX, one notices distinct improvements in design and functionality. The MAX features a restructured aluminium base, where the Corsair logo has been elegantly integrated and highlighted with RGB lighting. The visual appeal is markedly enhanced though the specific style may appeal to different users based on individual preference. Another technical enhancement in the MAX model is its LED backlighting system. Alongside this, the keyboard offers silent keys, thereby ensuring an unintrusive and seamless user experience. These elements contribute to the overall appeal and functionality of the keyboard. In terms of primary functionality and tactile response, the MAX maintains the quality synonymous with Corsair keyboards. It offers an ergonomic and comfortable gaming experience, complemented by one of the most technologically advanced LED lighting systems available in keyboards. The design, aesthetics, and color scheme of the MAX model have been refined, though the reception of these features remains a matter of individual taste. Furthermore, in a market filled with diverse competition, the MAX stands out with its unique features and design, but the preference will still vary among users.

Final words

With the new K70 MAX Corsair has introduced a noteworthy addition to its keyboard lineup by offering configurable actuation force on its switches, enabling users to achieve their desired key pressure for both gaming and typical workload typing purposes. This feature proves to be a significant advantage for users seeking a personalized experience. Additionally, the new MGX keys contribute to a quieter typing experience and a softer feel to the fingers. The keyboard's other features, such as the 8K polling rate (configurable) and improved aesthetics with a new cover and embedded RGB-lit Corsair logo, further enhance its appeal. The base of the keyboard also provides routing options and improved rubber grips, ensuring a stable and comfortable setup. While the overall mechanical functionality remains 99% similar to its predecessors the K70 MAX stands out due to its incredible configurability. Users who are not fond of RGB lighting need not worry, as the keyboard allows them to control the lighting according to their preferences, offering options for per-key on/off, RGB, dimming, and brightness settings. For those that love it, heck you can even sync up the KB with several games to match a game theme. Corsair's latest iCUE software unifies and syncs all Corsair peripherals, including mice, headsets, LCD coolers, and RGB fans, under one interface. This development allows users to theme their gear consistently, making it a convenient and attractive proposition. In conclusion, the Corsair K70 MAX really impresses with its advanced features and the highest configurability one could demand, making it a top contender for tech and gaming enthusiasts. However, the price of $229 may be a factor for some users to consider before making a purchase decision. As a piece of hardware, however, Corsair has outdone themselves, we grant a rare top pick award (but left out pricing in that equation).
