Active cooling is handled by a standard looking fan mounted into a big heatsink that also cools down the memory. It's quite effective and silent.

 

When we take a closer look at the backside of the card we can notice a metal clip over the backside of the graphics core. It has no function other then retaining the frontside fan/heatsink as it does not touch the core.

Again, as custom these days with modern graphics cards over an AGP port the card will need to be hooked up to your power supply as the AGP port can not deliver enough juice through the mainboard, a simple yet smart solution as the card will be fed by the power supply (PSU) directly.
