The software supports extra apps that are easily downloaded via the App Central icon. The NAS unit is not only a file-server, so the additional applications can be installed onto your NAS besides the ones that are factory installed.  

ASUSTOR is very active in offering updates of the application to keep everything updated and secured. From more interesting things you can find for example the:

• Photo Gallery 3 allows you to create a unique timeline network photo album that you can share with your family and friends.
• PHP7 - that enables the features of PHP version 7, a general-purpose scripting language designed for web development. You can host dynamic web page content on your NAS and use web hosting apps. PHP powers everything from your blog to the most popular websites in the world.
• Apache HTTP Server - it's an implementation that handles requests and serves web assets and content via HTTP. It was the most popular open-source and the goal is to provide a secure, efficient, and extensible server that can provide HTTP services synchronize with the current HTTP standards.
• AdGuard Home - it is a network-wide software for blocking ads & tracking. After you set it up, it'll cover ALL your home devices, and you don't need any client-side software for that.
