We review the new Thecus N4810, a Linux based NAS unit that is price competitive while offering great performance. The four bay beast is now fitted with a quad-core Intel Celeron processor and has received an upgrade to 4GB of system memory, with the ability to upgrade. Triple four my man.

Today we review the Asustor AS6208T NAS. This SOHO based NAS unit offers 8 HDD bays and was designed to be the price competitive NAS unit for the small business owner and heavy consumer. The unit really is a small server offering a wide range of features from advanced RAID functionality, towards Media center output towards LAN Link Aggregation with it's four gigabit Ethernet jacks. The sky is the limit with the AS-6208T as it is plenty powerful as well.

This puppy can take 2 HDDs, has low power consumption, but most of all can be used for 1080p / 4k HTPC accelerated media playback as it has HDMI out and support for a custom version of XBMC (Kodi).

We review the Thecus W4000+, this is a NAS unit that doesn't run linux for a change, no Sir its operating system is Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 Essentials (WSS). Armed with WSS you receive a NAS unit that really is a complete server with expensive software. You navigate in a Windows environment and while using all the luxurious options and features that come along with it. 

A NAS unit armed with a smooth software DNA and priced competitive against the big guns in the industry like Qnap, Synology and Netgear; a year or two ago Asustor entered the market. We review the AS5102T NAS. We went blank into this review as we never had tested this brand before, but with very good hardware and an excellent software suite the AS5102T is not only a fast file server, it's also loaded with applications, streaming and HTPC functionality as well. 

We review the Linksys WRT1900AC Dual Band Wi-Fi Router from Belkin, this dual-core processor monster of a router recently was introduced. This product surely brings the nostalgia of the old WRT54G back to the table as the design is very similar. But make no mistake, the new Linksys WRT1900AC is very fast, very sexy and offers incredible performance and range on both LAN and WIFI.

The Sitecom Powerline Ethernet adapters allow you to use your mains electricity circuit to transfer data, this way you can extend your network to wherever you have a free plug socket. The product we test today comes from Sitecom, their 500 Mbps plus Homeplug. The kit provides a connection of up to 500Mbits/sec. Divide that by 8 bits and you'd in theory would be able to see transfer speeds of 62.5 Megabyte per second. In practice, however we tested the maximum net data rate is much MUCH lower, 60~100 Mbits/sec - still that is faster than Wi-Fi and sufficient fenough or streaming high-definition video from say your PC with network shares to, for instance, your HTPC.

Security is a hot topic on many levels these days. We want eyes and ears everywhere. So whether you need your building secured, your office monitored for theft or need some camera protecting at home with in the far end of the scope ... monitor your baby remotely to see if the person taking care of him/her is doing the job adequately, there are solutions out there. One of the company's jumping onto that trend is Compro, in the past their focus was TV/Media capture products yet as the market shifted, so did their product offering. They are trying to get a foothold in the security camera industry, however for a part target consumers. Recently they release a the IP70, it's a security camera that really looks like a big webcam. The difference is that this is a Megapixel camera that offers much better quality then what you are use to. It's also an IP camera, meaning that you simply hook it into your network, lookup the IP of the camera access it and voilla, you'll have a fully functional camera in your browser.

Sitecom introduces a series of standard routers but with a twist. They tagged their mainstream range from X1, X2, X3 and a more enthusiast range from X4, X5 and X6. They are all Gigabit models, but obviously the higher the number the better the feature set. all models now come with cloud security, and that's the new feature we'll discuss later on. We test the X4 WLR-4000 model.

One of the kits Sitecom recently introduced consists out of a Gigabit router for your intra and local area network connectivity, a storage unit which Sitecom calls 'Home Storage center' will function as NAS server for all your multi-media content like photo's, music and movies. And then a small all-in-one HTPC or TV media player as we like to call it these days. To top things off they throw in a Logitech Harmony 650 universal remote control. Aren't you just eager to see how this HTPC network platform will perform ?

The SSD tested today once again is the Phoenix series from G.Skill. After we tested their 100GB Phoenix SSD (which received a very positive review) G.Skill instantly requested if we would like to review the 120GB PRO model. Both drives pretty much are the same thing, same controller ... The 100GB Phoenix uses Samsung memory though but the trick is that there is 20GB extra volume space available on the new 120GB Pro (compared to the 100GB model) for nearly the same price. A new Firmware for the SandForce 1200 based controller that is inside this 120GB model simply reserves less NAND flash memory for its data-compression scheme. As a result the overall write performance could be a tiny bit slower, but only a few percent as best. It however will give you 20 GB more space to play around with at the same price. And since price per GB is everything in the land of SSDs -- this certainly is a significant for any vendor and for you as an end-user.

We test the iNeo I-NA312N1 NAS enclosure. This NAS unit is relatively cheap to purchase yet does offer all the standard features and requirements you can expect from a decent NAS unit. Full user and group based control, FTP, file sharing all the basics for secure file management. The unit we review today is the I-NA312N1. Plain and simple it holds two HDDs and can be connected within a network with a 1 Gigabit (or slower) network link.

In this article I wanted to take a look at Ethernet over your power line. This technology has been here for years and is as simple as it can be, you utilize the power sockets in your house to transport a data signal carrying a network signal. All you need are two or more homeplug adapters, also known as Powerline Ethernet adapters. Devolo is the one company that caught my attention. They offer 200 Mbit/sec adapters. You plug them in, connect one to your PC and another one to say your internet router and you are good to go.

There is something in-between the NAS and standalone HDD enclosures, and we call that technology DAS -- Device Attached Storage, for the consumer market quite a new phrase to learn and understand. Today we test one, yes it will be more expensive as a normal HDD enclosure yet much cheaper than a NAS device, the unit we look at today for example is aesthetically very pleasing, can hold four high performance drives in hot-swappable drive bays, it is really fast, energy efficient, silent and comes with a plethora of connectivity towards your PC, like eSATA, USB, FireWire (400/800), of and I'd almost forget it .. is RAID 0|1|5 compatible.

Patriot just entered the NAS market with a simple affordable NAS unit called Corza. Their product supports two HDD's setups, RAID 0/1, USER and USERGROUP based access, FTP server, Hot swappable drives, really the most essential features a NAS unit should handle, yet priced really nice.

The NAS units are often small, do not use a lot of power, are highly configurable, offer redundancy as some models even can handle RAID internally. QNAP and their Network Attachable Units are among the most advanced available on the market today. Today we'll have a look at their the QNAP TS-439 Series Turbo NAS product. A 4-bay NAS unit, pop in 4x 2TB drives .. and you just added 8 TB of data storage over a 1000 Gbit/s network connection. Downright handy, and very impressive.

It's not often we publish reviews on storage devices but a while ago Vantec contacted us with the question if we wanted to review their latest NAS device. I had a peek, it looked sexy, ease of use and good connectivity. Suffice to say that today we'll be having a look at the NexStarLS where you can insert a Parallel HD into a little white or black box and then majestically transform it into a Network Storage Device, so that no matter where you are, you can always access your data as it's quite a portable device and so easy to use.
