So let's look at the product and packaging first of course. Let's meet that GT-BE98. Upon opening the box, we found the two units nicely packaged next to each other, along with a leaflet containing troubleshooting tips for devices that may not work optimally with the Wi-Fi 7 standard.

The package also included power adapter, a CAT6e network cable, a quick setup guide, details about the warranty, and safety information. The European version of the ROG Rapture bundles two power plugs: the standard EU and UK versions, ensuring compatibility with different power outlets across Europe. Overall, the unboxing experience for the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-BE98 Wi-Fi router was satisfying, offering all the necessary items and information for a reasonably hassle-free setup.

ASUS has introduced a device powered by a 2.6GHz quad-core processor (likely Broadcom), complemented by 2GB of RAM and 256MB of flash storage. In terms of connectivity, the device is well-equipped, featuring two LAN ports capable of 10 Gbps and additional ports supporting 1/2.5 Gbps speeds. Additionally, the device includes a USB 2.0 port and a USB 3.0 port, catering to a range of wired connection needs.

The Asus ROG Rapture  GT-BE98  is a quad-band router that operates on a 2.4GHz channel two 5GHz channels and then a 6 Ghz band. The second 5GHz channel can potentially serve as a backhaul to enhance wireless performance over a mesh, however, also could be teamed up with your WIFI7 connectivity. The ROG logo features a dot-matrix display that can be customized to your favourite colour or lighting effect. The LEDs can be turned off if you find them too disruptive.

The ASUS ROG Rapture GT-BE98 Wi-Fi system features eight antennas. The system also boasts efficient ventilation grids that help to keep the hardware inside cool. This mesh-compatible Wi-Fi router transmits on several bands: a 2.4 GHz band with a maximum theoretical bandwidth of 574 Mbps, then two 5 GHz bands, each with a maximum theoretical bandwidth of 4804 Mbps. The system also provides 2x2 MU-MIMO wireless transmissions on the 2.4 GHz band and MU-MIMO transmissions on the 5/6 GHz bands. WPA3 password encryption and 160 MHz channels on the 5 GHz bands are available but must be configured during configuration.

One note to ASUS, please quit the excessive usage of plastics. Each antenna had a plastic bag, then a plastic wrap and then a secondary plastic wrap on the transparent bits. There's just so much usage of plastics that you throw away that it becomes a bit of a dilemma with everything that is going on in the world. Companies like Corsair are already stepping over to the usage of paper wraps and cartons, which we feel for a company like ASUS is a part of responsible environmental behaviour as well. I think I counted close to 30 pieces of plastic in total.
