Day 2 Continued

2 PM, time to trek over to the main hall and meet up with Global Hauris (http://www.globalhauri.com) CEO/President Erick Kwon.  Funny how when you are not in a rush, you can pretty much find things easier, but when youre late and going haywire, everything else is a blur.  I might have passed their booth, maybe twice before I actually realized it was right there all along.  I introduced myself, and we sat down at a table and he opened up his laptop, and showed me how the new release of their antivirus program, Virobot, differentiated itself from the rest of the competition (Norton, McAfee, and PC Cillin).  My initial impression, well it seems to work a bit more efficiently and faster than the competition.  Mr. Kwon, loaded up his laptop with the Funbear, and Nimda virii, and showed me how each anti-virus program handled the infection.  It basically came as a surprise, as the time stamp on the infected files (Originally dated sometime in May) was changed to the days date (June 19th).  The 3 popular anti virus programs failed to get rid of the 2 infected files (all 3 had the latest virus list loaded). Basically they quarantined the infected files, and if it were part of a program and such, that program would fail to load. (Since it stored the quarantined files to a designated area)  Not too good for mission critical applications.  Virobot on the other hand fixed both files, and it also did it faster than the competition.  Now aside from its virus ass kicking abilities, its scanning function does not bog down system resources as Norton would (I think I am not alone on this one, ever tried using your pc while Norton was doing a scan?)  Mr. Kwon fired up windows task manager, and showed me while Norton was scanning, that CPU activity as at or near 100% (it fluctuated between 80-100%), but Virobot never even passed 10%.  Mr. Kwon made a great presentation on how his software differentiates itself, and in my opinion leads the pack in the war against PC virus.  They are yet to offer it on a wider market, as they mainly sold to government agencies, and private sectors.  They will start selling on a retail level, and I wouldnt be surprised if it topped Norton.  The package also comes with anti spam and spy-ware prevention utilities.  For $49.95, its a pretty complete anti-suite.  I would like to thank Mr. Eric Kwon for taking the time and showing me in depth, how his companys antivirus program worked.

Seems short, but, that took a little over an hour.  Sometime during the presentation, a few others stopped by and observed, and I think they were as impressed, as I was.  I looked at my watch and noticed it was a quarter after 3.  I thought, maybe I should step outside, and catch a little breather, and perhaps enjoy an ice cold beverage.  NYC weather has been horrid all week, and it was no exception that day.  I decided to walk back in, as it was more comfortable inside, in the nice air cooled, less humid Javits Center.

Walking back in, I noticed earlier that Iomega (http://www.iomega.com) was in attendance, and might as well pay them a visit.  They showcased their new DVD-Superdrive, (which won a CeBit Best of show award) which supports all popular recordable formats, DVD, and CD medias. This includes, -R, -RW, RAM, +R, +RW, CD-R, and CD-RW.  What does that mean, well for starters, if youve been following the mess that is called the DVD recordable format, well, its just that a mess.  There is no standard in terms of recordable format for DVDs as opposed to the CD medium.  Its confusing to the consumer as to what type of drive to purchase.  Iomegas latest offerings, eradicates that, and gives us an all in one drive. Currently it was only available with a USB 2.0 connection, but a Fire wire port is in the works, and could be available at time of release. It will be released later this year, and prices will be around the $350.00 range.  They also had updated versions of their external hard drives, as well as USB key drives (man these are all over now).
