This one is severely tagged highly as rumor, AMD)recently would have decided to discontinue the development of its high-end Navi 4 GPU, which was rumored to be a notable leap in graphics processing technology. Initial leaks and speculation suggested that the Navi 4C variant would have boasted a revolutionary multi-chiplet layout comprising nine compute chiplets. However, recent confirmations from within AMD's source code, discovered through data mining by Kepler_L2, indicate that these plans will not come to fruition. The uncovered source code for the processor reveals configurations of up to nine Shader Engines, confirming earlier rumors about the ambitious scope of the project. This design indicated that AMD was preparing to significantly advance its GPU architecture with the Navi 4 model. However, the project was halted before coming to market, leaving the tech community to speculate on what might have been.

Further discussions by tech enthusiasts, including adroc_thurston on technical forums, revealed that the Navi 4X GPU could have featured over 200 Compute Units. To put this in perspective, the current Navi 31 GPU includes up to 96 Compute Units. This suggests that the Navi 4X could have potentially offered more than double the processing power of its predecessor, marking a major enhancement in performance capabilities. The speculative RX 8900 XTX, which would have utilized the Navi 4X design, remains a topic of interest despite its cancellation. It is speculated that some aspects of this advanced GPU architecture might be integrated into future designs, possibly influencing the development of the next-generation Navi 5 architecture. Additional details about the canceled Navi 4X design included a complex arrangement of 13 to 20 chiplets. This setup was to feature three Active Interposer Dies (AIDs) and Multimedia and I/O (MID) dies, highlighting the complexity and potential capabilities of the proposed GPU.

Despite ongoing speculation and discussion in the tech community, AMD has yet to publicly address the rumors or provide any confirmation regarding the shift in their strategic focus toward mid-range GPU models for the RX 8000 series.
