So as stated we received a 8 HDD tray version of this NAS unit. The NAS supports Hot Swappable Hard Disks, and comes with proper Disk Tray Locks.

ASUSTOR updated their tray system, easy to use. You can mount your HDD, secure them with four screws and slide it into the tray. By pushing the handle inwards the HDD is mounted and locked secure.

You will have noticed four holes at the bottom side in the previous photo, that was indicative as you can mount 2.5" devices such as SSDs as well. Actually you could use an SSD for fast IO where you need it with APPs / downloads etc, and for long term storage you could setup a RAID 0/1/5 or 10 array with even a hot-spare. In fact we'll do that today.

This is the unit powered on, to the left we have the SSD installed, to the right you can see four HDDs installed, three setup RAID5 with an extra 4th that functions as hot-spare. So once one of the three drivers fails, the 4th hot-spare will kick in and the array will repair itself. The green lights indicate all storage units are OK. If a HDD goes bad, that LED will color red.
