Final Words & Conclusion

Final Words & Conclusion

ASUS has recently introduced the ROG Hyperion GR701, a striking full-tower chassis that stands out with its streamlined aesthetics and contemporary design. However, with a starting price of €420, it is a substantial financial commitment, reflecting ASUS's focus on high-grade products. The chassis has been engineered keeping optimal airflow in mind, which might be a prerequisite for housing the most robust components. Yet, the case can accommodate dual 420mm radiators, with the front channels facilitating air movement, and the top grid providing space for up to four 140mm fans, complete with an integrated fan hub. The roomy interior is capable of hosting the newest graphics cards and E-ATX motherboards up to 12 inches, offering 460mm of clearance. To counteract potential sagging, an in-built aluminum two-way graphics card holder is provided, enabling both horizontal and vertical positioning of the card. ASUS has spared no effort in scrutinizing every aspect of the ROG Hyperion GR701. It offers sufficient space behind the motherboard for organized cable management, including multiple grommets and a broad panel equipped with hook-and-loop cable ties. There's a small drawer for storing screws, accessories, and a screwdriver. The side panels are completely tool-free, and the power supply shroud features small perforations that permit airflow while preventing screws from dropping through. An additional feature for those considering the ROG Thor power supply is a small cutout in the shroud, permitting the OLED panel to be visible at all times. The extra panel adjacent to the motherboard tray can accommodate a radiator, fans, multiple 2.5-inch SSDs, or the ROG lighting board, adding a touch of visual interest.

Aesthetics

Subjectively, we believe that the product's appearance is very stylish, but we do understand that you really need to be an ROG fan to accept this chassis. The premium look is due to the new top, side, and front panels, tempered glass, and user-friendly side panel-based doors. The overall atmosphere is great, with a subtle and elegant feel. Some people may find the ASUS ROG signature accents objectionable, but this is not the case for the writer. Although RGB can be used, we highly recommend using an RGB-based LCS because the chassis is specifically designed for it. Lastly, the dark-tinted tempered glass provides a clear view of the computer's interior and components. Notably, all components are black, including the dust filters and rubberized grommet holes.

Features

The internals are wonderful, properly sized E-ATX form factor motherboards will fit, the most lengthy graphics card will fit problem-free and you get build in graphics card holders. There is also plenty of room for liquid cooling on the front and top sides of the case. The ROG Hyperion is a massive gaming PC case with dimensions of 269 mm x 639 mm x 659 mm (width x height x depth), and an impressive weight of 20.8 kilograms. ASU has taken into account the need for extra storage space, and has included a small compartment inside the case to store screws, cable ties, and PCIe slot covers, as well as a small screwdriver. The case features tool-less side panels for easy access and a PSU cover that has been specifically designed to ensure maximum airflow, while preventing screws from falling through the small holes.  The case also comes with an optional lighting panel that can be installed next to the motherboard. In the absence of this panel, users have extra space to accommodate a radiator, ARGB fan, or multiple 2.5-inch SSDs. The aluminum frame of the case is reinforced with sturdy handles along the front that meet under a black-colored ARGB logo. The I/O panel of the case is equipped with four USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (Type-C) ports, and a combined 3.5mm jack port to cater to your connectivity needs.

One thing you need to be aware of is that the case is heavy, especially when fitted with all components, weight can close in at close to 30kg!

The Verdict

The ASUS ROG Hyperion GR701 is an upper-tier computer case presenting various commendable features. However, its power supply installation process is rather intricate, necessitating the disassembly of the shrouds. Although this may be a minor inconvenience, it's an aspect that could be improved upon. The ROG Hyperion showcases its aptitude for luxury casings with its capacity for extensive liquid-cooling systems and an expanded USB 3.2 port capacity, which doubles the standard norm, making it a fitting choice for builders aiming for a high-grade system display. Its performance metrics are comparable to those of its competitors, but the Hyperion does stand out due to its substantial size. It's important to consider that those contemplating a case of this scale might also be looking at complex cooling solutions, which would generate a different performance scenario than our test conditions. Hence, our performance evaluations should be interpreted with a degree of scepticism. The sizable impact of the Hyperion is matched by its substantial cost, but for those seeking to stake a claim in a unique market segment, it might be seen as a justifiable expense. The ROG Hyperion, with its abundant features such as increased cooling capabilities, spacious design, ergonomic layout, plentiful power, and distinctive style, is undoubtedly a cut above the average. These additional features synergize well with the diverse hardware configuration options, making this case an option for various builders. However, while the ROG Hyperion excels in performance and style, it's paramount to consider its premium price point and potential complexities before making a final decision. It's a top pick, albeit a hugely pricy product.
