Well he's buying a faster card for less money, who'd say no to that.
me? More of a sidegrade really... if he goes sli 970 and sells his 780 then that makes sense to me..:)

I would go further with this.... Why to buy one or 2 when you can buy 4 of them 😀 Maybe not 970 because memory bus would be huge pain in 4k, but 4x980 would be awesome for 4k setup.
970 and 980 have same memory bus.

Yes, you are right, just mixed 780ti specs with 980 specs xD

Love the LED dragon logos on these as well.

Hi everybody! Can one of the lucky guys that bought a MSI 970 Gaming OC answer me something really important? How silent are those cards? I´ve read that they turn off the fans when we aren´t gaming and that under gaming they are nearly silent, is that true? For me this is more important than overclocking better than other cards. Thanks for the answers in advance!!!

Yes. By default they turn off the fans when temperature is low enough. According to every review it's really, really quiet while gaming.

I have 5 case fans. I struggle to hear the gpu over the case fans under full load. It's really super quiet.

Looks like im grabbing 2x of these when they back in stock (expected Tuesday), as my board should do em in SLi. 😀 I was thinking about just grabbing another 290 when the prices drop again, but i reckon they'd be too hot, as my single ones already hitting 80-85 (in a Phantom 820 as well), so 2x would no doubt push temps right up, plus the 970s would use way less power as well, as 2x of them in SLi, would only use slightly more than my single 290, or maybes not, as im probably over the rated 250w with it overclocked to 1080/1300.

I told you man. Those sli cards you listed were out around the time when your mb was released.

love it

Seen quite a difference in idle temps from different reviews, any idea why, seems quite amazing that some show idle @ 30, while others show 40-50, is the passive until load disabled in some reviews?

Would 2x of these in SLi be worth it then ?, specs on left, will be in 1080p, 144Hz, and would be able to use 3D Vision, only sticking point is, my 920s only at 2.90Ghz.

1 no, 2 maybe.. Single 980GTX would be better imo. Btw do OC that cpu :P at least 3.4 - 3.6ghz would help a lot.

I wouldn`t buy a single 970 or 980 with your current 290x. Overclock that cpu to 4ghz if possible, if its too hot with hyperthreading turn it off. 4ghz and 970 sli shoud not be too bad though I think it would bottleneck sli a bit.

BIB, If i knew how to, i would 😀 😱 Hmmm, don't fancy swapping to a 980, as the performance increase from my 290x isn't worth it, 2x 970s would be the best, as don't cost much more than a 980, and would giver a much bigger performance increase.

raise cpu multi, raise blck, rase VTT/QPI :P 😀 Yeah that's true 980GTX is a sidegrade but if you plan on SLI later it can be a better investment then those 2x 970 now.. But do you even need more then 290X power? Does it lag somewhere? Imo you would see bigger gains if you upgarded to 4790K + 2400mhz ddr3 + z97 mobo and really make that 290x come to life 🤓

Is 1501 Core in the OC results of the review a typo? The Giga they reviewed hit a higher boost (1516), but it's core OCed to 1328. It can do that on stock volts. I prefer a cooler OC that promotes long life. It also runs 8c cooler than the MSI. And if it isn't a typo, why would it be 1501 core AND boost? It kinda seems like the results you get when you use Nvidia Inspector to disable boost and use a fixed clock speed. http://www.overclock.net/t/1267918/guide-nvidia-inspector-gtx670-680-disable-boost-fixed-clock-speed-undervolting Anyways, kinda leaning toward the Giga because I tried an MSI 660 Ti OC some time ago, and in the process of finding it was having HDCP detection issues with my Panasonic TV, and rendering BSOD when switching from TV to PC, MSI was just horrible at CS.
