Damn this is a nice card indeed. Hilbert, I assume you'll be doing the 980 Gaming review as well?
Phaze, you upgrading?

Yes, MSI is shipping that one next week to us.

Yeah. just waiting to see the numbers on the 980 Gaming card. I feel MSI has come a long way since I last used any of their products, so I'm going to give them another chance. I just hope I don't get burned again.

This is my first ever MSI gpu and I'm loving it. really impressed. I almost bought a MSI 7950 TwinFrozr but apparently they were pretty toasty so I pulled out. This time round they're product is solid.

What is your temp like at your clock speed?
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/99/99142.jpg
I ran fire strike at 1500/8000 and fan speed at 100% and max temp was 62C. 100% fan speed was still a fair bit quieter than my 7950 cfx. easily tolerable. 24/7 scenario, I'll run auto fan profile, maybe with a slight tweak, at 1450/7600 and it's inaudible.

Nice. that's a pretty good temp.

How did you get burnt? What happened?

I had VRM failure on one of their boards in a 2 year period. Which all 3 were replaced with no questions.. On the 4th board, I was denied. After that, I stop purchasing their products. If I ended up with one of their products through a trade, that was fine. But i was never going to buy anything of theirs again. I figure it's time to let the past go and try my luck again.

I love the TFIV on my 780 Gaming. Good to hear you enjoying your new card.

I am thinking of doing the same thing. I have 2 GTX680 FTW 4GB and I am thinking of SLI GTX 970 for the awesome prices. I am done spending over $500 for a single card. The price/performance ratio is outstanding for the GTX 970. About time they came back out with 4GB of memory. I was not going to upgrade until they did. I have no plans to go 4K right now on my computer, especially with downsampling available on the GTX 970. Now, all I need is an awesome 120Hz 1440P IPS monitor and will be off to the races. My Crossover is doing fine less only being 60Hz. Good Times!
I had the same 680 cards that were replaced by my current.

Just waiting to see if water blocks are released for this card may just bite the bullet and get two of these instead of the 980's as the price is too good.

Cheers for the heads up eclap re the benchies. I think im gonna sit on this for a few days and let the initial excitement of the new tech settle down. Ive gone full circle in the last few hours, 970, no upgrade, 980, no upgrade, 970 again. The custom cooled 980's dont look like they will hit the shelves until 24th Oct in Uk (OcUK) so im leaning back towards either this card, or the Gigabyte custom 970. I noticed from the Guru3d reviews that the Gigabyte card was 10'c cooler than this MSI one under load and oc'd slightly bettter, yet the MSI card seems to be more popular choice round here. Why is that? Am i missing something??

Gigabyte card will break. When I went to Novatech today to pick up my 970, I asked them if they had another 970 in stock. They guy said "yes, the gigabyte". To which I laughed and said "no thanks, I'll take the MSI". A lot of people have had bad experience with gigabyte products, including me. I'm staying away from that brand.

If you're indecisive about buying one I'm not surprised, I think considering you've already got a custom 780 you're not gonna see huge improvements with the 970 or 980 - might be smarter to wait for a die shrink next year.

Yes maybe, but I have got a new plan. Why buy one 970........ when you can buy 2 πŸ™‚
data/avatar/default/avatar07.webp
you know, i have been screwed for years with lies about the noise of videocards. Last time was the 560ti msi hawk, with the so cool twin frozr bla bla bla thing massive and quiet air moving. Well it was noisy as hell, so it has been replaced by an arctic cooling something (don't remember the name). If i have to buy a much expensive card because of the oc and silent fan i would like a video with card in idle\full load to hear the real noise of the card and see if worth my money. Otherwise i can buy a cheaper one, stock, spend money on the arctic cooling thing and oc myself. Can you please make the video? Thank you πŸ™‚

Yeah, then it would be worth it! Although, would be cheaper just to get another 780 to sli with your existing 780, and performance wouldn't be miles & miles apart - then you'd definitely be set until the die shrink happens! That's if your case can deal with the extra heat of a 780 though (and your power supply).

I would go further with this.... Why to buy one or 2 when you can buy 4 of them πŸ˜€ Maybe not 970 because memory bus would be huge pain in 4k, but 4x980 would be awesome for 4k setup. Ok, jokes aside.. Geforce 970 is first nvidia card since very, very long time which really impressed me. By very long time i mean last nvidia's card which really impressed me was geforce 9600gt. It impressed me so much that i said to my friend who was about to buy r9 290 to hold on for few days until 970 will show up in shops and to buy one of these.

Well he's buying a faster card for less money, who'd say no to that.
