Asus has introduced a new motherboard designed specifically to facilitate overclocking of the Zhaoxin KX-7000 CPU, a processor developed in China. This development is noteworthy as it underscores the capabilities of the KX-7000, especially in comparison to established CPU models from Intel and AMD. Initial tests reveal that the KX-7000 performs between two to three times faster than its predecessors. However, when compared with Intel’s Kaby Lake quad-core CPUs, its performance aligns more closely, particularly with the Intel Core i5-7500 and Core i7-7700K, as well as AMD’s Ryzen 7 1700X. In various benchmarks, including Geekbench 6 and CPU-Z 2.08, the KX-7000 was tested in both stock and overclocked states to gauge its efficiency and power. At stock settings, the KX-7000 scored 351 points in the CPU-Z single-core test and 2,654 points in the multi-core test. It lagged 20% behind the Intel Core i5-7500 in single-core performance but was 43% faster in multi-core performance. Against the Intel Core i7-7700K, it matched multi-core scores but fell short by 29% in single-core performance. Among the CPUs tested, the Ryzen 7 1700X outperformed the KX-7000 in both single and multi-core benchmarks by a significant margin.

Upcoming Windows 11 Update to Include AI Capability Checks, Warns of Unsupported Hardware

Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 15

teaser
In the latest developments surrounding Microsoft's Windows 11 operating system, the upcoming 24H2 update is set to incorporate several AI-driven functionalities. However, recent findings from code reviews suggest that PCs failing to meet specific hardware requirements for these AI features will display a watermark notification. This watermark is designed to inform users that their system's CPU does not support the necessary AI functions integrated into the OS, such as the Advanced Copilot, AI File Explorer, and DirectX AI Super Resolution. The revelation came to light through investigations by a coder known as Albacore, who discovered this functionality within the Windows 11 Insider Build 26200. The code specifies that CPUs must support SSE4.2 instruction set and a minimum of 16GB of memory to utilize the AI features effectively. While the SSE4.2 requirement may not affect many users—as most CPUs compatible with Windows 11 already support this instruction set—it highlights Microsoft's focus on ensuring optimal performance for AI-centric applications.

Upcoming AMD RDNA 4 GPUs May Continue Using 18 Gbps GDDR6 Memory, Reports Suggest

Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 15

teaser
Recent reports, including a notable leak from the tech influencer Kepler on X, indicate that AMD's forthcoming "RX 8000-series" RDNA 4 graphics cards are expected to utilize 18 Gbps GDDR6 memory modules. This decision marks a continuation of AMD's use of GDDR6 across four generations of its RDNA architecture, despite newer memory technologies like GDDR7 offering higher bandwidth capabilities. The progression of GDDR6 memory speeds in AMD's GPUs began with the RX 5000-series, which utilized 12-14 Gbps speeds, followed by the RX 6000-series at 14-18 Gbps, and the most recent RDNA 3 RX 7000-series, which included 18-20 Gbps. Should the RDNA 4 series continue with 18 Gbps, it could potentially be perceived as a step backward, especially considering that some of the current RX 7000-series models use faster 20 Gbps modules.
