Most people automatically assume that because you have a router, it is automatically shielding you from the out side world. In the most part with the better manufacturers, this is true. But (and this is a big but) you must have the later firmware revisions, especially if you have a relatively new product.

I tested the router with the online checker available at grc.com but was unable to find one port that wasnt marked as stealth. (Goto www.grc.com for more info about stealthed ports).

I double checked this with a bit of a port scan here and found all of the ports were infact closed, but not hidden. So to any hackers this signifies that the PC is online but is closed for communication on those ports they have scanned. (They can still DOS you though)

Upgrading the routers firmware to the latest version at the time of writing this review (Firmware version released on 11/25/03), I did another port scan and simply could not see any ports at all.

The logical conclusion is two fold.
1. Xincom understand the security issues of their products and update their firmware to suit.
2. Always update your routers firmware.

p.s. The reason grc reported that all ports were undetectable was because the routers here at the office stop port scanners like that found on grc and similar websites.
