Performance

The tests:

  • An old favourite of mine Lanmark Pro is to be used for transfer speeds over TCP.
A 3.94Mb file (MP3 if you must know) to be transferred three times and averages drawn.
  • NetIQ, part of the chariot test software just to verify some of the tests.
  • Sandra to be used for some real quick tests too. The transfer results on Sandra are of a small data file over TCP.

There are no extended tests over UDP. The reasons for this is that the protocol can be so widely adjusted which can be a reason for unrealistic results. The only reason I can see to use UDP in the review is to show how gaming performance maybe affected as most games use UDP streaming, one test on the worst scenario proves that UDP streaming is more than adequate for online gaming.

The tests are done in a couple of setups to try to reflect real world situations.

Scenario 1.

Heavily overloaded plug socket to bridge on another power circuit

Scenario 2.

Normally loaded plug (i.e. no extensions) to bridge on another power circuit

Scenario 3.

Heavily overloaded plug socket to bridge on same power circuit

Scenario 4.

Normally loaded plug to bridge on same power circuit

Scenario 5.

Initially empty dual socket, then with bridge and adapter in socket. (Close to ideal)
