The NAS WEB interface
As stated anything can be configured in the web interface, including users and user groups and their respective permissions.
Not mentioned just yet, but the NS4600 is DLNA compatible. You can stream Digital Living Network Alliance as the NS4600 can be automatically discovered by Digital Media Players, Digital Media Renderers and Digital Media Controllers allowing Pictures, Music and Video to be shared instantly at any time in the home.
Sony's Playstation 3, Sony's Bravia Series LCD HDTVs, Pioneer's Elite Series Blu-Ray Player, Samsung's 750 & 850 Series LCD HDTVs and Nokia's N95 8GBTM SmartPhone are all DLNA Certified Devices that are capable of streaming content instantly from the SmartStorTM NS4600.
The box indexes most multimedia file formats (JPG, GIF, TIF, BMP, PNG, MP3, WMA, OGG, FLAC, MPC, WAV, AVI, MPEG, MP4, MKV, WMV, M2TS, MOV, MP4). Obviously it's up to the client side to be able to play them.
And sure, you can access, download and playback on the client side your songs and content from the web interface as well ...
There's plenty more to show you but we have to end the menu overview sometime. Now say you only want to have the NAS unit active during business hours, or if used for an HTPC environment in the evening hours. That's all configurable as well. The device can power up and down at your schedule preference saving on power consumption when powered down.
