Introduction
Today, we had an opportunity to check out the new headset from NZXT called Relay. It comes from the same family as the speakers/subwoofer we reviewed at last year’s end. We will also present the SwitchMix, a USB DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) with mixer features and a headset stand. That’s not all as if you would use a Relay headset and the Relay speakers - when you pick up the headset from the built-in headphone stand, the speakers mute and audio switches to the headphones, and the other way around.
The NZXT Relay headset offers a high-performance 40mm driver with a flat frequency response. The headphone playback frequency range is between 20Hz and 40kHz.The total harmonic distortion level is below 1%. Impedance is 32 Ohms. The sensitivity is 113 dB @ 1 kHz. The provided mic is Cardioid (Unidirectional), with 100Hz – 10kHz frequency response and 1 kHz (0 dB = 1 V/Pa) sensitivity. You can find a 3.5mm mini-jack (4 poles) interface and a USB conversion adapter. The headset is available in white and black and weighs 269.5g (263.0g without the microphone. As for the NZXT SwitchMix, it combines USB DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) functionality with mixer features. From some non-standard features, you can find, for example, the automatic sound output switching mechanism that seamlessly transitions between different audio devices (after putting the headset on the SwitchMix stand). The sampling rate is 96 kHz, a quantization bit number of 24 bits, and a signal-to-noise ratio (S/N ratio) exceeding 90 dB (at 32 Ω). It features DTS 7.1 surround processing and EQ too. The SwitchMix offers versatile connectivity options, featuring a USB Type-C interface, two 3.5 mm mini jack ports, and a dedicated stand control terminal. The total weight is 693 g, and to be specific - the main body of the SwitchMix weighs 280 g, while the accompanying stand weighs 413 g.
