Performance - Test Bed & Setup

Performance

For testing the Mad Dog Multimedia Entertainer 7.1 sound card we used the following hardware.

System Config:

  • CPU: Athlon XP 1700+@1466MHz
  • Memory: 1Gb Crucial PC2100
  • Mobo: Asus A7N8X-D 1007 Uber
  • Video: eVGA GeForce FX5900SE (400/700MHz core/mem)
  • Video Driver: Nvidia ref. 53.03
  • Disk: 2x120Gb Seagate Barricuda 7200.7 SATA RAID 0
  • OS: WinXP SP1, DX9b (4.09.0000.902)
  • Audio: Terratec DMX 6-fire (5.40.0003.0130)
  • Audio: AudioTrak Prodigy 7.1 (1.992-s3511d)
  • Audio: Creative Audigy2 ZS (5.12.0001.0441)
  • Audio: nVidia SoundStorm (6.14.0409.0000)
  • Audio: Mad Dog Multimedia Entertainer 7.1 (5.12.0001.3616)

The AudioTrak Prodigy 7.1 replaces the M-Audio Revolution 7.1 for its newer Sensaura3D algorithms and better performance in games.

Software used:

  • Halo
  • Call of Duty
  • Tron 2.0
  • UT2004 full version
  • Far Cry Demo2 'Research'
  • RMAA 5.3
Each benchmark, with the exception of the RightMark tests, were run at least 3 times and averaged. The test machine also has a mysterious problem with RightMark 3Dsound 1.01, so the results will not be included at the request of the developers. FRAPS2 was used on games that did not have a decent benchmark utility, which was everything except Halo. The resolutions were limited to 800x600x32bpp in order to rule out the video card as a limit.
