Page 20 - Call of Duty

Call of Dutycallofduty-tease.jpgCall of Duty is an intense first-person action game that allows players to experience the movie-like intensity and gripping combat of World War II as never before--through the eyes of ordinary soldiers, fighting as part of a squad through the chaos of battle. Developed by Infinity Ward, which is comprised of over 20 individuals who developed Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, including all the production leads, Call of Duty delivers the gritty realism and cinematic intensity of WWII's most epic battlefield moments--from the perspective of citizen soldiers and unsung heroes representing an alliance of countries, who together helped shape the course of modern history. Throughout the game's 24 missions, players will be part of a squad, who bond together to take on enemy forces and achieve mission objectives through pivotal WWII battles and authentic military campaigns.

The missions range from rescuing a captured captain, shooting down planes at an enemy airfield and even riding in the back of an escaping military truck while the bad guys hunt you down. You have a large arsenal of machine guns, grenades, rifles and other arms from the time period. Each weapon is correctly associated with the nation you are currently representing. One of the greatest things about the weapons is the ability to grab just about everything you can see in the battlefield. Are you a little low on ammo?

Believe it or not, the game uses a reborn Quake III engine, the graphics in this title however are simply top notch; lighting, surfaces, shadows, and fog effects are outstanding and combined with an unparalleled ambient sound experience, players will find themselves fighting in a war. The bottom line is this: if your system will run newer games at all, Call of Duty should be smooth as honey and with the latest generation graphics cards it should be a feast for the eyes.

For our COD test we recorded our own timedemo. In multiplayer mode with many people playing simultaneous we recorded a Team Deatchmatch in the surroundings of BreCourt. Again we can notice severe CPU limitation. Once the processor frequency is higher the score will immediately change. VERY impressive numbers though. Let's crank it up a notch:

COD 4xAA 8xAF 800x600 1024x768 1280x1024 1600x1200
R9600XT 88 62 42 27
5900 XT 95 70 49 34
5950U 100 80 59 43
6800U 130 130 123 107
3.4 GHz CPU 143 136 128 116
8xAA 121 120 110 92

For the sake of it... you can't slow down the 6800 Ultra with games like these. The difference between the 5950U and the 6800 Ultra is a doubled performance increase in the highest resolution.
