Stage 3 - Liquid Nitrogen (LN2)
Adding a thick layer of sheet foam insulation should finally do the trick. Basically just cut out a square in the middle and slide it down over the CPU socket area.
Rather important, thermal paste. Regulating temperatures at around -150 / -180 Degrees C can sometimes be rough. I've found that using Ceramique has been the best for going sub zero. Stability in-between Ceramique and regular thermal grease versus sub-zero cooling is beyond comparison.
Mounting the LN2 pot is fairly easy... I always use a small flashlight. It's easier to see the bottom of the pot while mounting and making sure you have direct contact with the CPU. I always say that you can never be too shy when it comes to insulation. I used to be afraid that I would ruin my board somehow by putting too much, but in reality the only thing that ends up breaking in the end is the hardware.
So don't be shy... put as much as you want. The main goal is to protect the motherboard while we stress it to the end of the world.
Wrapping the memory in shop towels has saved me from countless disasters. Any cold air that happens to escape out of the ln2 pot can sometimes cause condensation, either on top of the heat sink or within the ram slots. Either use several fans to blow the cold air elsewhere or cover it completely.
