Introduction

Deepcool Assassin IV air cooler review

Today, we are examining an air cooler from the Deepcool: an ASSASSIN IV. As the name would suggest, it’s a successor to the Assassin III, which we covered almost four years ago (time goes by quickly). Again, the main competitor is the “classic” Noctua NH-D15. Last time, it was more or less a draw. How will the fourth edition fare with an Austrian competitor?

The fins are now black-coated (as opposed to Assassin III), and the new design is more sleek. It is again a dual-tower design cooler with a seven heatpipe Ø6 mm tower layout for optimal cooling performance. The fins are now black-coated (as opposed to Assassin III), and the new design is more sleek. It has been appreciated with the iF Design Award 2023 and Red Dot Winner 2023. The size of the reviewed product is 144×147×164 mm(L×W×H), and the weight is 1575 g (that’s a lot!). You can find two fans used here; the sizes are 140×140×25 mm(L×W×H) / 120×120×25 mm(L×W×H). The (PWM) fans (a Fluid Dynamic Bearing type with a 6-Pole Fan Motor and 12 VDC) speeds are as follows:

  • 500~1700 RPM±10% (Performance Mode)
  • 500~1350 RPM±10% (Quiet Mode)

The fan airflow/noise/air pressure specs are stated below:

  • 79.1 CFM / 58.06 CFM /  ≤29.3 dB(A) / 2.44 mmAq / 2.1 mmAq (Performance Mode)
  • 63.76 CFM / 46.75 CFM/  ≤22.6 dB(A) / 1.58 mmAq / 1.35 mmAq  (Quiet Mode)

Mounting a 3rd fan (the bracket is included) is possible. You get a DM9 thermal paste in the bundle. The compatible sockets are:

  • AMD - AM5/AM4
  • Intel - LGA2066/2011-v3/2011/1700/1200/1151/1150/1155

A relocatable 120mm fan provides unobstructed clearance for high-profile RGB RAM. RAM Clearance:

  • Intel LGA1700/1200/115X: Unobstructed
  • Intel LGA20XX: 63mm
  • AMD: AM4/AM5: Unobstructed

The exceptions (being not compatible with the Assassin IV) are:

  • ROG STRIX Z790-H GAMING WIFI,
  • ROG STRIX Z690-E GAMING WIFI,
  • MSI MEG X570 GODLIKE,
  • MSI B650M APE WIFI,
  • ROG CROSSHAIR X670E GENE,
  • and MSI MEG Z790 ACE.

We want to underline that now we’re using the i9 13900K Raptor Lake processor to check the cooler and AMD Ryzen 9 7900X(previously, there were Intel Core i9 12900K and the Ryzen 7 3700X).

The warranty period is six years (so it’s much longer than the usual two to three that the competition offers). The price of Deepcool ASSASSIN IV is 99.99 USD. It’s not the cheapest in the market, for sure. But will it be worth it? So, let’s head to the specs/feature page, shall we?
