Final words and conclusion

The Darkstar Wireless is a very nice (mainly) MMO-oriented gaming mouse. Its design suits especially the palm grip style. Here, fifteen buttons are available, and all of them are programmable. You get the 26K DPI sensor, Corsair Marksman. The value of IPS is 650, with up to 50G acceleration, and the polling rate is up to 2000 Hz (using hyper-polling). Darkstar Wireless can be heavy for some (considering the current standards), as the weight is 96g / 0.21 lbs. The battery life is very good (up to 80h using the BT and w/o the RGB, according to Corsair, we got around 65h). The battery is possible to be charged via the bundled USB cable.

The connection is made via Bluetooth or 2.4G RF wireless technology. The sensor responds as it should, with no noticeable interpolation or angle snapping. The two main buttons in DARKSTAR are equipped with brand-new OMRON optical switches, which use IR light to detect mouse click events instead of metal contacts. Using optical switches eliminates the debounce mitigation techniques required for standard mechanical switches. A six-axis gyro and accelerometer create a low liftoff distance for more accurate tracking, and programmable tilt gestures enable you to tilt the mouse upward to perform in-game actions. You’ll have seven RGB zones, which can be adjusted in the Corsair iCUE software.

Conclusion

For $169.99/€169.99 (a rather expensive offer), you get a well-designed, wireless, and MMO-oriented mouse that is not too heavy (96g / 0.21 lbs.), but for some, it can be too much (although you need to remember that you have fifteen programmable buttons). The design is quite subtle; it shouldn’t cause any controversy. According to Corsair, the battery life is very good and can go up to 80 hours; in reality, it was around 65h. The battery life drops significantly with the RGB and the RF 2.4 GHz connection (Corsair states 20h, but we got 15). The build quality and ergonomics of the Corsair  Darkstar Wireless Wireless are very good. The RGB is available in seven zones and can be adjusted in the Corsair iCUE software. What you get is a complete MMO gaming mouse. That’s an “Approved” award, as it’s a product of very good quality and performance at a rather steep price. It should fit the specific needs of Massively Multiplayer Online gamers, as you get the fifteen buttons. Also, you get seven lighting zones (it can be important for some) and a six-axis gyro and accelerometer, which creates a low liftoff distance for more accurate tracking, and programmable tilt gestures, which enable you to tilt the mouse upward to perform in-game actions. Overall it’s an attractive product, but for a specific range of users (MMO gamers), as for the rest the number of buttons can be too much (and distract/disturb during usage).
