We undertook a thorough assessment of AMD's new Ryzen 5 8600G Ryzen 7 8700G processors to obtain significant findings. Our testing procedures involved using the B650 motherboard from ASUS (STRIX)and G.skill Trident Z5 NEOR DIMMs in the form of 32GB 6400 MHz CL32, which we set to Expo mode. We analyzed several performance metrics to assess the capabilities of the Ryzen 7000X3D processors.
The Ryzen 5 8600G, a desktop CPU, entered the market with an MSRP of $229. This processor, part of the Ryzen 5 series, utilizes the Zen 4 (Phoenix) architecture and is designed for Socket AM5. With AMD Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT), it effectively doubles its core count, offering 12 threads. It boasts 16 MB of L3 cache and operates at a base clock speed of 4.3 GHz, with the ability to dynamically boost up to 5 GHz based on workload. Fabricated on a 4 nm process with an impressive 25,000 million transistors, the Ryzen 5 8600G is a technological marvel, notably produced by TSMC. For enthusiasts, the unlocked multiplier enables overclocking for precise control over clock frequencies. The processor has a 65 W TDP, falling within standard power consumption ranges for modern PCs. It supports DDR5 memory through a dual-channel interface, with an officially supported memory speed of 5200 MT/s, which can be pushed further with overclocking and compatible memory modules. ECC memory support adds versatility for mission-critical systems where data integrity is crucial.
In terms of connectivity, the Ryzen 5 8600G uses a PCI-Express Gen 4 connection to interface with other components. It includes the Radeon 760M integrated graphics, eliminating the need for a dedicated GPU. The package includes the Wraith Spire cooler for efficient cooling. Hardware virtualization capabilities enhance virtual machine performance, and support for Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) accelerates calculations in demanding applications. Furthermore, it handles AVX2 and AVX-512 instructions, further bolstering its computational capabilities.
