I'm really glad to see this - whenever I upgrade, I'd like to have more than 16GB but 32GB will be overkill for my needs. Sure, I could always get a 16GB and an 8GB module, but then I'll lose half my bandwidth after I exceed 16GB of usage. With a pair of 12GB DIMMs, I keep the total bandwidth all the way through.

It really depends how much cheaper than the 16gb sticks it will be. On the other hand 2x16 kits are like what 80 bucks ? If 2x12 kits are 65 ... Might as well go for 32gb indeed .
