Crucial is reportedly developing 12GB DDR5 SO-DIMM memory modules designed for laptop use, marking a new capacity offering in the DDR5 memory category. These modules have not been officially announced by Crucial but were spotted on a UK online retailer's website, as spotted by @momomo_us. The modules are featuring a data transfer speed of 5600 megatransfers per second.
Typically, DDR5 memory has been available in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB modules, with some manufacturers also offering non-standard capacities such as 24GB and 48GB. The introduction of 12GB modules fills a gap in the market, offering a new intermediate capacity option. The 12GB SO-DIMM modules are available for purchase individually or as part of a 24GB kit, which includes two modules.
