Absolutly pointless, we don't even have HD channels as standard in the UK let alone 4K, just another gimmick and price hike..

First: "Screens have to come first." While basically true, they'd wish everybody wants to drop a few k$/€ on a screen... Second: "What do I watch on it?" Exactly this also, @Netherwind and @gopher04 . TV I get is still 720p (HDready from 10 years ago), only the internet gives me anything above it right now... with 4K netflix being the highest resolution I could imagine using, and I don't even have a 4K TV right now, let alone needing 8K Third: These screens are simply too large for me. I neither have the room on the wall nor the depth of a living room to properly use those huge screens they introduce, TVs getting bigger and bigger isn't really helping, my living space does not increase in the same relation. Anything above 52" is a waste in my living room anyway. Fourth: "...and 8k content will follow as soon as 5g networks in South Korea and the United States become a reality." This is utter rubbish once more. They market 5G networks as the holy grail of internet usage, although we have more than enough bandwidth with wired connections, there's still neither 8K content nor screens. If bandwidth would be an issue, it would not have been one in the past either, and if it depends on mobile network bandwidth, I'd like to see them use 8K TVs in the subway. Fitfth: "With microled technology, as with oled TVs..." Selling burn in screens... I avoided plasma TVs for that reason 10 years ago, I won't give in to such a substantially flawed technology this time either. All in all I call BS, idiocracy in the tech world. Like others, I hope they don't meet their sales expectations of 8K TVs and somebody responsible for this gets a slap on the hands (because much more won't happen).

We need gpu what can handle 8k and its not older car priced. Dat is what we need.

We need more clarity, original picture, smooth movement and proper framerate. It's getting tiring. The whole project reminds me the hunt for mpixels in cameras. Pointless, bigger size. There are tons of other factors that matter.

Nice! Hopefully it will push Ziggo to add 4k to default subscription and 8k as extra. Most people i know already own a 4k TV these days, so that would be nice. For the elite with the 8K TV, they can watch Olympics and football matches in 8k as that's where it is tested first. 4k already looks amazing , cant imagine how 8k looks OMG. Hopefully they will make a future resistant HDMI cable though since changing them every time because they do not support bandwidth that is required gets very tiring

TV makers are marketing by numbers rather than need or practicality. The 'moar the better' will always be a successful strategy to reel in the clueless consumer.

8K for what? my 4K TV is not doing much rather than watching 720p content on it.

Good, the more 8k tv's the better So its knocks down the price of 4k and i can get a new 4k tv at a reasonable price since my current 4k tv has a dam dead pixel on the middle of my screen

Perhaps they are gonna do it like Nvidia. New class TV. With a new starting price tag, above most 4k TVs. So there will not be any drastic price decrease. Just a more widely available option for those with serious money. A desperate movement to make 8k mainstream. Like what Nvidia tried with RT.

so 4k get pushed more as there new high point the idea is get consumer mind high-end=8k mid=4k low=fullHD another things, from marketing prespective, each year new product need to have new feature, so they decide with 8k i guess making 8k display is cheaper (production cost-wise) than other features we can look back few years ago, like 3D feature etc. most just gimmick for 8k, although we might eventually using it as common-things (like fullHD) but it wont be ready for 1-2 year either... so for now it same like in past its gimmick but again without those new gimmick, things will be stuck in old-tech forever

For our info. Average global internet speed cannot handle 8K content video 50-60fps but only 25-30fps. GPUs are unable to handle ultra details at 8k with console like 30fps let alone breaking 60fps. Those TVs are for those who can drop money on the road or want bragging rights.

I'm sorry to inform Samsung's investors, but I don't have a tv at home and will never buy one; yet alone one of your overpriced fake HDR monitors.
