The forthcoming GeForce RTX 50-series, known as "Blackwell," is expected to be introduced in 2024. Recent insights, notably from a Moore's Law is Dead report, suggest that this launch might be confined to the top-end model, the GeForce RTX 5090. This model is poised to replace the RTX 4090. Even if the initial release is limited to the flagship GeForce RTX 5090, it is likely to provide significant insights into the "Blackwell" architecture. An overview of the architecture during the launch would reveal new features and performance metrics, offering a glimpse into the potential of other models within the series at their respective price points. The "Blackwell" series is projected to deliver a substantial performance improvement over its predecessors.

Several factors may influence NVIDIA’s decision for a restrained initial release. One primary consideration is the current market's capacity to absorb the existing inventory of the RTX 40-series. Additionally, NVIDIA might prioritize its AI GPUs, which are based on the same architecture but generate higher profit margins for the company. This strategy allows NVIDIA to better manage its product lineup and respond to market demand effectively. By focusing on high-margin AI GPUs and managing the rollout of new gaming GPUs, NVIDIA can optimize its resource allocation and strategic positioning within the competitive GPU market.

Update: now the rumor is that the 5080 might see the light of day sooner than the 5090. Well, we'll see.
