Are you having a laugh?)
No, I wasn't. Not until now. It's a very simply question. "I'm guessing you pre-ordered or will soon order CyberPunk right? Having spent $300+ for a 5600xt vs just $199 for a 5500 XT what are you expectations for that game when you factor in the cost? For me $199 looks a lot more attractive with existing hardware. When it comes to the expectation of IQ and performance." Regardless if you buy a 5500 XT or 5600XT if you are gaming at 1080p with an existing monitor (60hz for example). And cost is a factor $169-$199 is more attractive when you are guaranteed 1080p performance vs 5600 XT which may cost $100+ retail (I'm talking retail not MSRP)! It's not hard to comprehend nor does it need several posts to explain to you. You really do come off like a troll.

The only thing is the price. If I could buy one at 199€ shipping, could be a happy deal. But no. Here in Spain the 5500XT is 259€ plus shipping. Ignoring the power consumption, I could buy a second hand Vega 56, with some warranty. Playing the flashing game, I could get a Vega 64 able to give me enough GPU power for some time. Well, hard times for us. 1st world problems, man. We are spoiled, that for sure.

Exactly! It will all come down to how much you will have to pay when it becomes available. I would love to see it where MSRP is actually the price you pay. For me, the 5500 XT is $169, $199 then it goes over $200. Once the $169 sell out I'm not sure if that price will come back once stock is replenished back to $169. Supply and demand kicks in. High demand, higher prices...It is the way.

Too expensive. These cards should be like $30 cheaper. A 1660 can be had for $199 and that comes with Turing nvenc + Gamestream. I go NVidia every time because of that.

They had them at newegg for $169-$199, lol. You gotta be quick. Edit: LOL, wow those cards are going fast. Even the $239 Nitro version is OOS now.

So, after 3 years the only improvement we have is power consumption. Thanks AMD, that's why I bought a RX560 (no RX570 at MSRP because of mining) and waited 2 f...ing years. Didn't have the idea the 4gb model would be punished so much from the Gamers Nexus review. At this budget level, 8gb doesn't make sense. I'll have to buy a card anyway as mine is useless, probably will have to change again in 2 years time, oh well.

@Silva a second hand Vega 56 is golden, performance wise. Even GPU compute is quite robust, if you are into that.. You can find one for 200€, even if used for mining. Also, let's wait s bit, it's just today they released them cardz. Maybe AMD will cut the price to ease them into the market.

@12:25 he states that delta disparity between the 4gb and 8gb was found with Shadow of the tomb raider. Stating it was mostly exclusive to Tomb Raider. He states other reasons for the disparity. At 1080p I would think that 4gb, although antiquated now, should still hold it's own. Towards the end of the video @22:50 he also states that typically at 1080p you are not going to run into a vram issue.

I found blower Vega64 for 220€. Performance is unmatched for that price, card is almost fast as 5700. Problem is ofc heat, noise and power consumption.

Undervolt. And put on the headphones, your bank account will be still alive.

I agree with your conclusion Hilbert. While it's a nice card that does what it sets out to do, who exactly is the target audience? The $150-$250 dollar market is so crowded right now I personally think AMD should have just went straight to the 5600's and skipped these.
I agree with you, the only market for this seems to be people building a new computer and who are willing to pay extra (over a Rx 580 8GB) for the reduced power draw. I'm not sure how large that market really is. I think long term though, AMD will not be producing anymore Polaris series GPUs and this product looks more attractive when compared to Nvidia (due to more similar power consumption mainly). Still, it is going to take a long time for the glut of used Polaris GPUs to be off the market since so many of them were purchased for mining etc... AMD needs a 5600 model more in my opinion, so I'm curious as to why they decided to bring this 5500 to market first. Of course all of the enthusiasts here really want a 5800 or 5900, but I wonder if that will just wind up being a 6xxx series at this rate.

someone would have to be crazy to choose this over the 1660 super....only $20 more.
data/avatar/default/avatar17.webp
1660 super or even used vega56/gtx1070 are the only options now for under 250$. AMD lost the mid range segment. 590/580 are so much inferior to 1660 super and/or second hand vega56/1070gtx cards. 5600 or amdead below 5700 series. Sad times for red team. Why 5500 should be so expensive? Even the best variant of 5500xt should be less than 200$ with that level of performance.
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/198/198862.jpg
5600xt is coming in january will probably be 250-300$. Polaris users can hold until then in a search for an upgrade. A decent 1660 super costs 250-270Eur in EU so yeah pricier than US.

The price is not competitive is just priced to match nvidia price perf ratio roughly 🙁

If you have not done so, you may want to change the thermal paste on that 970. Might then make sense to see if a new GPU fits your system well. If you plan to use it in a new build down the road, then might be wise to prepare yourself for the next console generation...)
Yaeh been there done that . (Paste changed for thermal grizzly and cleaned out all of the dust) It works most of the time but any demanding game and it freezes up. Tried it in a Friends pc and the same problem. Heres hoping rx 5600 is futures proof, 5500 is a bit to slow futures proof wise. 😳

Fun times my 1070 is still relevant 😀
I’m glad I got a 1070 too. Been nearly 3 years already. Almost went with a 480 because it was $150 cheaper.
data/avatar/default/avatar33.webp
The 4GB version seems to be better bang per buck apart from those odd pesky games where it takes a nosedive. AMD have not been able to repeat the trick with 5700 and XT here by undercutting nvidia on perfortmance, in effect they fill a small gap in a part of the spectrum which is full of cards. And it's hard to get excited in this area as well. Hopefully the 5600 / XT will repeat the 5700 trick again at lower cost.

The 1070 will continue to be relevant for another year or two. My laptop has the full fat 1070 in it and it still crushes newer titles at 1080p 100Hz. Still I'm curious about the 5800xt.

That or AMD needs to work on color compression. It does not seem to hurt the 4-6GB Nvidia GPUs.
I've got a feeling AMD pushed Radeon Boost just in time for the 4gb varient release.
