You can definetelly see a difference between high and ultra textures on tomb raider games. Even the 1080p displays it well. Its also using 6.3gb vram on my card.

Also thinking about replacing my dying gtx 970 but i think ill hold out for the rx 5600 depending on the actual price of the rx 5500. Hoping rx 5600 will be a nice upgrade, but mabey its overkill for my freesync 1080p 75hz monitoro_O.

If you have not done so, you may want to change the thermal paste on that 970. Might then make sense to see if a new GPU fits your system well. If you plan to use it in a new build down the road, then might be wise to prepare yourself for the next console generation...)

Really now? You can sincerely see a noticeable difference in texture detail between these screenshots: https://www.custompcreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/rotr_graphics-comparison-02-very-high.jpg https://www.custompcreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/rotr_graphics-comparison-02-high.jpg Note: those screenshots are differences in presets, not just textures. So the "high" setting can still be overall worse than "very high", but the discussion at hand here is only about texture detail. Even then, some of the other lowered detail settings barely make a difference. That's not even the newest TR game, so, I'm giving you an advantage here.

Wow these are excellent cards for the price at 1080p. Sure there were a few outliers indicating that the drivers need more refinement but overall good cards. Furthermore, I would suspect in some cases that IQ for some would be tweaked a bit to get optimal gaming experience. I can only assume drivers will mature as time goes on to boot.

Those rates are "barely playable" or "nearly unplayable"? o_O Doesn't look like a DOA release to me...
lol what? Who are you quoting? I never said those words. 😕

It appears that the 5500 series are a true 1080p card. If there is a 5600 I would wonder what segment they would fit as it would be between 1080 and 1440p landing in no mans land. To fast for 1080 but not enough for 1440p. IMO a mixed bag when you factor in the price. I'm sure it would be at least $100 more then the 5500.

"who exactly is the target audience?" It is a nice card. Some have a budget. They may only go up this high. Maybe those are the target audience? LOL? 🙂

One way of looking at it, I suppose...but for sure not the only. 120Hz+ displays are fairly popular these days...games are getting more demanding... Kind of odd that such things are seemingly meaningless to you. "To fast for 1080..." Eeeeek...

Indeed it is meaningless. These cards usually par up with already existing monitors. Usually they are 60hz in this segment from what I've seen. From personal experience I've seen someone spend $400+ for a gpu vs spending $300+ for a 5600 XT then buy $250+ for a monitor, for example. Sure, there are outliers but when it comes to pc upgrading a person usually goes for gpu. Again, from what I've seen. Therefore, for someone considering the 5600 XT with a 60hz monitor they would need to upgrade their monitor to 144hz in order to get the best out of it at 1080p. It's not to say people don't already have one. It's having to buy one along with this purchase which is disconcerting.

Hmm...saying games will not be getting more demanding? I'd bet you that they will be...)

The only demanding games AMD has had a consistent issue with are those sandbox games. The only other "demanding" games AMD has had problems with are those that are nvidia focused. As we usher in 2020 and new slew of next gen console games it's rumored that MS will direct port their games via powershell. For a AMD PC setup that won't be demanding at all. In fact, the very opposite. But that remains to be seen, for example. However, from the review there were what? 2 games that need driver attention out of 10 or so at 1080p? I'm not seeing that as an issue for the 5500 xt at it's price point. Sure you can buy at 5600 XT at $350 retail and get 144 fps at 1080 (if you already have a 144hz, 1080p monitor). However, for those who don't have one and want to just get good gaming experience with their existing 60hz monitor the 5500 XT is a solid win. But here's the caveat to this. Consoles will be 4k60 with HDR and sprinkled with DXR at some point. This is why I'm concerned for the 5600 XT. As next gen gaming is technically around the corner now as we draw 2019 to an end.

Kinda hoping you're joking...) I'm somewhat concerned about my 5700xt keeping up with the heavier titles from next-gen. Where are you getting the $350+ 5600xt from? You can get a 5700 for that. Now. You are off...

Heavier titles? I was hoping you were using some sort of indirect view. There are no "heavier titles"...it's something you made up to justify your own view point. It goes something like this: Either the game will properly support AMD hardware or it won't. Or AMD will get proper drivers for those titles and there is improvements Or You adjust image quality Or You hedge your bets on a next gen video cards. In a nutshell. I'm sure there are others but for general gist. But for now for what we have is indeed good enough. I'm guessing you pre-ordered or will soon order CyberPunk right? Having spent $300+ for a 5600xt vs just $199 for a 5500 XT what are you expectations for that game when you factor in the cost? For me $199 looks a lot more attractive with existing hardware. When it comes to the expectation of IQ and performance.

The RX 5500 is basically a RX 580 level performance card, with less VRAM, at the price we could already buy the RX 580. The RX 5500XT enters on RX 590 territory, but again at prices that we already have on the RX 590. The only good thing in this cards is the power consumption, because the price/performance is terrible, considering it is a new generation. This GPU market is really upside down! No wonder so many people are jumping to gaming consoles.

The performance of the cards are good, but AMD stuffed up the pricing.

Kaarme:

My dusty old card is starting to get beaten by entry level cards like this (especially the real 8GB model) quite badly, but I'm in no hurry to upgrade. I'll need to see the next generation from both camps. I reckon I will want HW raytracing to keep running the card for a few years at least. Of course nobody knows if AMD's first gen RT will amount to much, but probably they needed to convince Sony and MS, at least. For Nvidia it will be the second gen already, which is good, but one can only hope they won't go so crazy with the prices.
Yes, definitely get one with ray tracing, it's gonna start becoming the 'thing'....from what I hear the next gen NVidia could be the one to get with a significantly increased ray tracing as well as general rendering performance...it's gonna be on a reduced node (7nm) so MOAR transistors! Yep, I'll be getting a 3000 series NVidia GPU, I decided to skip this current generation...not impressive enough & no need. AMD are already on the 7nm node and performance is not ground breaking, so NVidia should have a sizable performance advantage once they switch to 7nm on their 3xxx cards - considering what they're currently able to do with 12nm.

Thanks,Mr Hilbert for these tests. Unfortunatelly,RX 5500 (XT) is on par with RX580/590 and better than 1650. Lets see how will be RX 5600.

The day has come when AMD's inferior products are more expensive from what competition has to offer... I guess that "special hardware" rdna needs for sharpening is very expensive! People who think that consoles will help amd, think again, what hardware are consoles using even now?! Sorry, but buying on assumptions that 1 card will perform better then the other in 5 years (when you will most likely start to look for an upgrade) is ridiculous and it was not true so far unless you run out of VRAM. Considering I do not really need more than 270x and cheapest 1650S in my country is 200EUR, I will rather get used 570/580 at less then half the price with 1y warranty left.
