I dont think this is going to sell as well as 970 did.. I mean this thing probably will not sell less than 400 EUR over here.

Of course it won't sell that good. It costs that much more in the end. But it will sell well.

Great performance for 379 USD on non-reference cards!

Nice review but I have to say your recommended power supplies for these cards is absolute nonsense. 850w-900w for SLI? No, just no. I'm running two overclocked 970's in SLI, a 4690k (4.5Ghz), 3 Hard Drives & 8 fans in my system for nearly two years now on a 650W (Superflower gold unit) and at peak load it draws less than 450w. So telling people that you need 800w-900w for 1070/1080 SLI is just utter guff.

If it will cost less than 400 € it will sell and in that case the price/performance ratio would be great.

Great review, as usual. And very nice card, the price will go up for sure. Looking forward for non reference cooled cards.

It's not non-sense. I agree It is rather high, I have now lowered it a little, but the reason why I always have the PSU recommendation a good notch higher is simple and has three reasons: 1) If I say a 600 Watt PSU is fine, people think ah well then a 500 W PSU will be suffice as well well. 2) Overclocking, CPUs differ. Yours is energy friendly / overclockable at low voltage likely 1.25 Volts is enough. Try that with a Haswell-E that adds 200 Watts under load just for the CPU overclocked if you need ~1.40 Volts. 3) Your PSU is the most efficient at 50% load. On your PC a 500W PSU might be sufficient sure, but you are running your PSU under load at that level, quite a lot. I tend to math out PSU load and then double it up as I want reserve for tweaking and be energy efficiency. It's a difference of opinion / view I know .. but my recommendations are based on valid reasons (but I understand these reasons are not valid for everybody as well).

Thanks Hilbert! This Review does it for me, 1070 it is!

I really like the performance and price. Hopefully with more supply price will stabilize. It's 930$ for 1080 here now. And same probably gonna happen with 1070.

Yeap, this is my card. It's roughly the same performance of my old OCed 2x970s (IF/WHEN SLI scaling was perfect) on a single card, more than double the vram, way less heat/power and a decent price for a change. Depending on how good Big Pascal will be, this will be my gateway card until then. I would also consider SLIng 2x1070s, but I'll have to see what improvements nvidia's focus on 2-way SLI will actually bring (if any) first, not to mention DX12, developers optimization etc. etc.

Btw, what about amps? I rarely see them mentioned nowadays. Not important as they were?

Well the 1070 is a worthy sucessor to the 970, delivering great performance at a reasonable price! But my 970 still has plenty to offer, so the 1070 is not for me. Not to mention that i really need a new system instead of a new GPU... BTW when can we expect Zen to arrive??? Because i really need a new CPU!... Great review as always!

GeForce GTX 1070 Founders edition is tagged at GBP 399. However the cheaper board partner cards should be 40~50 pounds cheaper.
Blimey, so we could be looking at around £350 for board partners 1070s!? Think I'll be picking up a 1070 instead of a 1080 as I game at 1440p and can't see myself going 4K anytime soon. Perhaps 3440*1440 I can't decide lol

Well said. Maybe Hilbert if I may suggest splitting it into two sections like a "doable" suggestions which will be wattage+25% of the total measurements instead of double and then another 25% for maximum efficiency and peace of mind as the "recommended" suggestion. E.g: Total system wattage= 450W(with or without OC) "Doable": 550W PSU "Recommended": 650-700W E.g 2: Total system wattage= 300W(with or without OC) "Doable": 400W PSU "Recommended": 550-600W We are talking quality psu's only obviously. So when we break it down people will see two suggestions of which are: total wattage+25% as "doable" and another +25% on top of that as "recommended". Then maybe everyone will be finally satisfied for once. On that subject at least. :P

Of course they are. But when buying quality Tier 1 or Tier 2 psu's there's usually no need to worry much about amps(either multi or single rail). You get quality components and the advertised wattage + even more sometimes as some companies even under-sell their psu's capabilities.

Normally I would upgrade to a 1070 right off the bat. But my current 970 has never let me down in anything I've thrown at it, and this at 1440p, so dont see a Pascal upgrade on the horizon. If Polaris can offer something worthwhile (doubt it, due to its die size), may reconsider. Still see AMD as having better mid-term prospects with DX12 titles and performance longevity than NV. Its the only reason I hold interest in a potential switch to red side. Of course Volta could change that, but thats a long wait.

It's not all about wattage. Rather over estemate for people with weak psu's that's not even 80+ rating or just pass the 80+ rating mark.

Please stop using "spunk" in your reviews, really, please. It has a completely different meaning in many countries outside of 'Murica.

spunk NOUN 1 informal Courage and determination. 2 Tinder; touchwood. 3 British vulgar slang Semen. Still it usually is not about Semen. All about the context.

Watts/Volts = Amps So if your 600 watt PSU puts 500 to a single 12v rail, you've got 41.67 amps.

In five months this card will be at the same position probably, where currently is gtx 970. Isn't $450 too much?
