Kudos to them for innovating. I would think there are 2 possibilities why they went with this: 1. Maybe with this angular approach the hot air can move out away from the card quicker than if it was being blown directly down. 2. Or just visuals - the fans are angled towards the outside of the case so if you have a window you can admire the beauty of the shroud and fans without having to side mount your GPU.

But the fans are angled towards the motherboard? Look at the IO bracket orientation and I believe this might be a mirrored image. Also, it's missing the actual PCIe slot/finger... So really, it would actually hide the fans/shroud even more. That said, this allows more air to be blown out though the the heatsink fins away from the motherboard so it should have a noticeable boost to cooling.

1. The fans in video cards don't push air out, they draw air in. The air then flows through the cooling element and escapes from whatever gaps the card manufacturer has left in the shroud and the back of the card. So, with the fans facing downward, they get fresh air from the front of the PC case and also the bottom in cases where that's possible. So, all in all, the hot air from a video card is already flowing upward (and towards the back), which is the general flow direction of air in a properly build PC. 2. If this isn't an April fools arriving late, this is probably the case.

As Huggi quite correctly points out, how is this supposed to be inserted within a PCIe slot? If this isn't a rather stupid April Fool's prank, I'd offer the only possible explanation is that this is some sort of custom-PCB eGPU jammie that somehow escaped it's enclosure. And, even I wouldn't put too much faith in that explanation.

It is a artist render. There are so many things wrong with this that it is funny. Take the DVI port for example. There is no socket and electrical connections behind the port; it is mashed right up next to the heatsink. Belated April Fool's prank that was late to the gate.

I don't see the point. Innovation is really hard when everything has been done: it's just a cooler, it is used to cool the card, just make it a functional piece of hardware, please!

If it helps direct air flow I could see how this maybe would be useful. But, I'd rather just have a triple-slot heatsink.

I can see how this can be better design. But it still makes it GPU that takes a lot of space. Maybe it can be close to 3-slot cooling solutions, but has much less metal used. Yet, I have strange feeling it will cost more than cards that have 50% more metal used. If I was to design heatsink cover with fans angled like this, I would go for very different design of heatsink. They went for unusual aesthetics, but I think it is far from most efficient option.

Guys the picture is probably just a mock up/render done badly as the PCI bracket is literally on the wrong way around. But this might actually not be a bad idea. If you look closely at the cooler you can clearly see the heatsink is much larger on the raised side allowing for more surface area. Also potentially opening up a larger gap on the top end of the card allowing more air to flow out the top of the card when mounted inside a case. Not to forget that if those fans have RGB they will be lighting up the bottom of the case/motherboard quite well hahaha :P All in all this picture is triggering the hell out of me..... I/O plate is the wrong way around, or the wrong side, there is no pcie connector visible, if you look closely each fan has a weird metal looking bar going straight through them..... Whoever made this image probably knows nothing about PC hardware.
