If this is used in a competitive match (PVP) then its going to give RTX players a huge advantage in certain scenarios. Imagine hiding behind a wall or in a building and you can use mirror or window reflections to see where the enemies are where the other player with no RTX features doesn't see what you see giving the RTX player a huge advantage. I don't mind these features being implemented but only once the technology is the standard across all hardware and right now that isn't the case.
Well reflection have always been possible, is just those are higher quality. But you can have any reflection you want with the old technics

I'm not sure if most of the fortnite players would be able to afford the hardware to do this with the game.
Don't they spend hundreds on skins already? All they need to do now is steal dad's credit card that one more time and get someone to install the shiny new GPU for them.

Not really no. He does raise a good point. Those RTX reflections are not screen space reflections. Depends on implementation, but if Fortnite gets proper RTX implementation, you will find yourself seeing things reflecting where screen space reflections will not show.

what a waste. Guess we don't need the Iphone or Android version after all.
Yeah, a bit of a waste, I don't care for Fortnite personally but the more we see RTX supported the better. Even more importantly, DLSS 2.0 is a must, it makes RTX possible at high performance.

We shall see, there is a pretty huge difference between screen space reflections and RT reflections. Also not even just that but RT GI gives much darker areas not covered by light so in fact it could also effect people using these features whereby people not using RT will be able to see those areas more easily. So it can go both ways also. A competitive playing field needs balance to be a proper competition so it comes down to the skill of player.

Well... considering the game is cross-platform, PC players are already at an advantage with mouse+keyboard.

Oh don't get me wrong I agree completely that this stuff exists already. I mean on PC you can turn settings down or even off and get an advantage just look at what happened in PUBG if you turn graphics to the lowest you can see people inside grass that you wouldn't see if you ran the game on higher settings. Not to forget lowering settings generally gives you an fps boost so that too can be an unfair advantage. I would say a lot of these cross platform games console players have an advantage as well as they have aim assist on and sometimes its insane what it can do for a player. This is the reason I avoid cross platform competitive games and stick to ones that have less of this.

Ah yeah I forgot about that one - good point. Haha I also deliberately disable DoF, because that also gives you an advantage by being able to see in your peripheral vision better. DoF tends to look crappy anyway, and lowers frame rate.

so we'll need a next gen GPU to run it properly fine. wait a minute... we are supposed to have new GPU right now... no ? oups... apparently its still not good enough...

Tried everything turned to max on my 2070super and the results were negligible visual enhancement vs tanked performance. Will be interesting to see if my niece notices any difference as she's the only reason I have the game installed on my system.

Isn't this similar to people getting a 144hz or even 360 Hz and a high fps experience for extra money? I guess they're trying to tell you, if you wanna be that competitive (eg. care enough about some low percentage of situations where a reflection might truly matter), then go ahead and get yourself a PS5, Xbox Series X or latest Nvidia 3000 Series GPU (or even later AMD). Aside of that, all high-end pro gamers or streamers do always use the latest hardware.. They want 200-300 FPS in a game.. etc..
