Facebook app now listens in on your surroundings

I have Facebook because its a nice easy way to keep in contact with friends and family who have moved far away and you'd like to share pictures and video with them. Like my Son who lives on the other side of the US. I live in Wa and he lives in Florida. Nothing wrong with Facebook, it is what you make it. As for the App, who cares.. People are too paranoid these days. If someone wants to listen to what I do then go for it, I really don't give a shlt. Besides I seriously doubt anyone is going to be peeping on peoples conversations and sex life. The only people that should worry about this are criminals. Since the feature can be turned off, no one has to worry about anything.

No point trying to argue with them, they think they're superior because they don't use facebook, but reality is in a lot of cases they are just disadvantaging themselves. You see the same **** with people who use different browsers, they think their browser choice makes them superior or cool or unique.

I have a profile on Facebook, but I rarely update my status or even log in to it. There are many ways to keep in touch with someone, without using Facebook. People use it because everyone else does. It's the cool thing to do these days. Whatsapp is something I like to use, regardless of Facebook buying it, but even that is hardly something you could call discrete.

My thoughts too, how is FB gonna defend listening in to under age kids? They're bound to enable it as default

Bigger reality- false positive hits. It's going to not detect the actual song you're listening to. "POSTED while listening to Justin Bieber's greatest hits" This is just a stupid idea all over.

If I was a teenager, I'd totally use FB. Not saying it's only for teenagers, just that with FB I can imagine getting tail is a lot easier than in 'my day'. Any idea how hard it was? You had to find tail, then court it, then have dinner with their parents several times (after showing them your athlete medals, and signature from teachers of your grades) and then maybe, just maybe, you'd get a peck on the cheek in secret behind the bike sheds. Now? Jeeeees...just post 'I'm looking for tail' and within seconds your front doorbell would ring. Props to those using FB for what it's good for, thumbs down for those putting their entire lives on it for everyone to see.

You must like the fact your phone app is spying on you then by "listen" in on you how is this any diffrrent then what FBI/NSA do? they do and caught doing a **** storm happens but facebook does something similar and your ok with it? Not that any of it maters ever last person is be track on by those government agency weather they want to admit it or not.

You all love connected world we live in as result there no such thing as privacy on anything that connected to that, only the illusion of it. it not paranioa it fact. there is no perfectly securtiy in digital connected world all things can be hacked.

+1 and it's not like every other country isn't doing the exact same thing as the NSA, it's just the NSA are better at it than everyone else and THAT'S why they are pissed.

Also another simple solution do not use facebook on mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets. Just use on desktops and laptops and you should be fine unless they find a way to integrate it into the desktop/laptop site.

Yeah I stopped using it on my mobile when they forced the installation of the messenger app. I now use IE just for these social sites.

Each day i thank myself for not having an FB account. God thanks,i have more than enough having an Gmail account. It is optional,you say. Everyone must remeber that someone tells your freedom has an opt-in ,opt-out button,it is taking that liberty from you,by making it so "optional".
