Give is a little while. When DDR3 came out, pricing was high too but it came down.

The only good thing about this is that these are true speed chips and not being sold as overclocked chips such as 2133 with DDR3. With me I should see a sizable gain going from DDR3 1333mhz ram underclocked to 1066 due to my CPU FSB to 2133mhz with an i7 cpu.
Also when DDR3 first came out there were problems with people upgrading from DDR2. So there might be a few kinks that need to be worked out.

I didn't notice any differencer coming from 1600Mhz either. The only reason I got these sticks was because Microcenter had a sale and it was too good to pass up.

People on the legacy FSB (including me) won't see an increase even switching from ddr2 to ddr3 (like the few 775 boards that supported it like my 790I ftw. I only bought it for 45nm support).
People on the QPI will only see a benefit if the base clock is high enough to match the bandwidth coming from the memory. Even then, applications have to take care of the extra cores and random access bandwidth to make it all evident so it's not happening anytime soon where hardware is now ahead of software.

These kit of memory just came in in stock at newegg , retail price is $350 US Dollars , in my opinion timings are wayyy too loose for my likeness.
