I've been agreeing with Denial pretty much this whole time. While Apple ought to lower their prices, they can get away with the higher premium due to a more reliable system. I too prefer Android, but Apple does have a more solid product. Anyways, with Apple losing sales, all I can say is they got what they deserved. It has nothing to do with Jobs dying and the economy has very little to do with it. It's because they no longer have the best product. Maybe if they focused more on listening to their customers than suing Samsung, they'd do better. Maybe if they spent more money on development than stupid patents, they'd do better.

ok prices in America are clearly different. in the UK you can get any new android free on contract.
When the S3 launched, you could get it for free, but not an iPhone? I don't buy it. At what monthly cost/contract limit/data/phone plan terms? When these phones launch, they're roughly the same price. Look up launch prices for flagship phones and compare them to the iPhone's cost. Not prices on contract, those are too obscured, look direct from the manufacturer.

Apple needs to drop the prices. Now that they are running bi yearly release dates.

Actually no, Samsung doesn't just wake up one day and say "LETS BUILD RETINA SCREENS!" a customer comes to them with a large enough order to justify Samsung supplying a production to suit that need. And no company was doing this because they didn't have the marketing and cash flow to justify it. The general market didn't care about high res screens till Apple pushed retina as "magic" or whatever it is they do.
"retina display" is just a marketing term that crapple came up with that would set their products apart from the countless others that had been doing it years prior. so you are pulling the typical sheep thing and claiming crapple invented hi-res displays ? hmmm that is news to me although they do "invent" everything technological. as for the stock price, i very much enjoy watching it fall at near terminal velocity.

don't you know naming a product and adding some extra stuff is also a kind of invention?? How dare you question the apple?

I didn't say apple invented it I said they innovated it and there is a difference. Before apple showed up to the scene every single manufacturer was doing every thing they could to cheapen their displays let alone push a heavily calibrated one at 300+ DPI. Afterward everyone started playing catch up with high resolution amoled, qhd, and whatever buzz word HTC came up with. Before that no one cared. Look at the MBP name one company pushing high resolution in consumer notebooks. Apple does it and 6 months later at CES you have multiple laptops with IPS, higher resolutions, better contrast. Anand even said in his podcast that multiple manufacturers implemented this stuff directly to complete with the MBP screen.

Why do I get the feeling that the majority of Guru3d members get out their lotion and Kleenex whenever they see an Apple thread... and you thought Apple fans were bad, look in the mirror.

yes, s3 was free on £35/month. so was my s2 on release. New iPhones usually cost £149 on £35/month contracts on release.

You get a product that works pretty flawlessly for one. As much as I like Android, I have constant issues with it, even with the stock experience on the GNex. In the mean time my sisters iPhone 4 not only offers a significantly smoother experience but she's never had a crash, random reboot, or anything.
That's purely subjective though, I could say the exact opposite of, my Samsung Galaxy S Plus has run flawlessly from the day I bought it, no crashes, no locks up no issues. On the other hand my sister has had an IPhone 4 go t*ts up, run like cold treacle and when she got a new Iphone 5 she had to have it swapped because the SIM port on it didn't work.
In the mean time my coworkers VZW S3 is blown up with constant ads in the notification bar one of which that actually plays sound, it's funny. Not to mention a samsung branded interface that looks like a mess and applications that he cannot remove (although they did add freezing which is nice).
All my co-workers use IPhone5s or 4s I am never hearing the end of things not working, things not doing what they should or phones just locking up with no way of recovering them. See subjective
I'd rather Apple stay high cost and use it's marketing to justify higher quality devices
Yeah we wouldn't want them releasing another Iphone that can barely do the 'phone' thing.

oh come on! Apple was behind for years, up until iPhone 4 release. then they went "ahead" for what, a few months? even then, a super amoled is imho far more impressive technology over their retina. plus that retina craze will soon be put to sleep with 1080p screens.

Seriously? The retina has better everything except for brightness. And the diminishing returns on 1080p at 5 inchs is like way high.

what is better on their retina display? because to me they look very bland.

They held out this long but now its the perfect storm. They are finished, time too ignore whatever remnants remain, Bye. In 6 months from now all we will here is, "Who is this Apple you spoke of?" uh, shh!, don't really matter, just some cell phone Grampa uses because he doesn't like change.

I called this when the dual core androids came out. didn't think it would happen this soon. the next iPhone will have to be absolutely amazing, otherwise it's gonna turn even worse.

I absolutely love my iPad 4 but as my first Apple device even I'll admit that their products are very expensive. Expensive but very nicely built and of a quality that I've not seen elsewhere. I guess that is what you pay for. I certainly do not regret buying my iPad but I can't but wonder how much more successful Apple would be if they priced their products competitively.

Retina has to do with the pixel density of the screen. Before Apple pushed the retina displays, phone displays were terrible. Everyone tried to cut as much of the cost as they could out of the display, especially on resolution. For reference: The Galaxy S came out about the same time as the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 was 326 ppi, the Galaxy S was 233. About a third more pixels per inch. Now, Android phones have overtaken that, but Apples marketing...Specifically the term Retina display, put a name to what people were looking for all along: crisp, bright, displays. After that, Android phones immediately began going bigger and higher-res. Why? To differentiate their screens, because people stopped accepting 840x480 on a 4 inch phone.

You called what? That Apple might lower the expected quantity of iPhone 5s? Do I need to remind you that even at the reduced sales pace the phone is still top 3 selling phones in world, and that Apple is still larger on a revenue basis than companies like GE? So you called what, exactly? That Apple could pull the entire cell phone market around by the collar with a single marketing term?

no, I called that Apple will struggle to keep up with android. I called it right.

One line retorts, that's what you got. You gave an "I told you so" to a guy who really doesn't care what you were saying 2 years ago, and that's it. I assume you have a stupid smug grin on your face when you say it too. You are absolutely worse than any fanboy, including Finch, because you are more blind than they are. At least they get their enjoyment from using the product. You're just ****ting on a device to **** on it and you disregard any valid points given to you, all because it gives you a feeling of superiority for your OS choice.

I'm in same position as you Darren. I'm loving my iPad4 too. Both the wife and I love the iPhone as well. No surprises though in this news.

from my perspective...my ipod produces the best quality music that no mobile phone can reproduce i have to date...so...you get what you pay for, that's it... apple is equal for quality...and they are taking hard advantage of it...:infinity: 🙂
