Sniper Elite V2 is the long-awaited sequel to the original Sniper Elite from Rebellion, providing a new perspective into the already familiar genre of World War II shooters. You fill the role of Karl Fairburne, an elite US sniper parachuted into Berlin amidst the final German stand of the Second World War. Based off real events from Operation Paperclip, your mission is to track and capture high-profile targets with connection to the development of the terrifying V-2 ballistic missile. This mission will undoubtedly prove a challenge as you will singlehandedly face the might of both the German and Red Army against prevailing odds.

The game greatly stresses on the art of sniping and stealth, vigorously testing the precision and patience of any player. Sniper Elite V2 offers a highly detailed sniping simulation using advanced ballistics, forcing players to account for factors including gravity, wind, velocity, bullet penetration, and aim stability. With diligence, players are rewarded for their hard-earned kills through an X-Ray Kill Cam that gruesomely showcases the hard reality of a bullet entering a body. Witness firsthand the tearing of organs, the splatter of blood, and the shatter of bones as each bullet unremorsefully pierces through human flesh. Gigabyte opens up new Offices in Benelux

Generic News 1994 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Gigabyte moved into new offices here in the Netherlands. A completely new building was bought and is stationed in Eindhoven the Netherlands. Today the mayor of Eindhoven Mr. Rob van Gijzel and Gigabyte Founder & Chairman Mr. Dandy Yeh opened up the new facility. We where there for the festivities.

The new building has roughly 1000 M2 of office and storage space spread out over two floors. The new building will house Sales, marketing but also functions as a transport hub for the Benelux and likely some other countries.

Interesting to see is that there is an RMA department as well. Typically when a motherboards breaks down you'd expect credit note or a replacement but apparently it is still efficiency and cost effective enough tyo repair the motherboards. Lots of components and chips are stored there and can be replaced / repaired if broken.

Anyway, we took some photo's of the happening, but also that RMA department and the storage HUB -- should you guys be interested in looking at them, click on the thumbnails. Obviously we like to congratulate Gigabyte with this new facility.

Samsung Galaxy S III Burns

Laptop 99 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Engadget reports a Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone burst into flames and melted while in an in-car holster. Samsung posted on its blog that it's aware of this issue and will begin investigating as soon as they receive the specific product in question.

The global HSPA+ iteration of Samsung's new flagship apparently sparked into white flames, followed by a bang. While it's certainly not the first smartphone to implode in transit, the damage -- along the base but separate to the charging port -- looks pretty substantial and although the screen still apparently worked, reception was dead. The phone has been whisked off to a repair center through phone retailer Carphone Warehouse for the full autopsy. User dillo2k10 was left unscathed, but it's apparently left some nasty molten plastic remains on the inside of his car.

We recently reviewed this product right here.

Microsoft Surface tablets to start at $599?

Generic News 1994 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

DigiTimes heard that Microsoft's Surface tablets will be manufactured by Pegatron Technology, but that there's still not a firm estimate for order volumes.

They also got to hear that the Windows RT model will be priced over $599, while the Windows 8 Pro-based version with Ivy Bridge processor will cost at the very least a good $799.

The sources pointed out that the industrial design of Microsoft's Surface tablet PCs should attract consumers in the enterprise market, but their high prices are expected to become the biggest obstacle in the market.

The sources also pointed out that the Surface tablet PCs have successfully attracted the attention of consumers, but the strategy also means that Microsoft will directly compete against its downstream partners in the Windows-based tablet PC market. Since Microsoft is only expected to receive limited profits from its own-brand tablet PC products, while greatly offending its clients, the strategy that Microsoft has taken is rather risky.

Carmack: PS4 and Xbox 720 will not offer significant leap

Games 1603 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Speaking to GamesIndustry, id Software's John Carmack stated that he isn't excited by next-gen consoles because he thinks they'll be unable to fundamentally change the gameplay experience. Instead, Carmack believes virtual reality headsets could have a dramatic impact.

"[Luckey] is starting a Kickstarter to help fund the first batch at $100 a kit. The hope is to sell these at $500 a kit with sensor and a copy of Doom 3 it could be about $600. I may wind up subsidizing a set of this first batch as they are so incredibly cool. I'm hoping that we will have these available around August... to have a chance, to have an impact on how VR is going to go, as this is better than most high-end units."

Interestingly, while the demo we played was with an Xbox 360 controller, Microsoft hasn't shown much interest, while Sony has, Carmack noted. Not only that, but Carmack told us that he's "actually going to be talking with Valve next month." Carmack didn't say who this was, but we're guessing it's Valve's Michael Abrash, who's already spoken publicly of his interest in wearable computing.

Radeon HD 7970 GHz edition review

Graphics Cards 1673 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

We review the new Radeon HD 7970 GHz edition. The product is called GHz edition though even a little more. AMD now uses a Boost feature, exactly similar to what NVIDIA is doing on the 670/680 cards. The R7970 Ghz edition can 'boost' from 1000 MHz towards 1050 MHz if it meets the right conditions. So the board power (maximum power draw) needs to allow it to do so, if not it drops to 1 GHz or whatever board power range is allowed.

Not only have there been tweaks on the GPU, no the memory clocks got overhauled as well and have been increased from 5,5 Gbps towards 6 Gbps bringing the product a good chunk of additional memory bandwidth. Overall the new values should bring the product a nice 10 to 15% performance boost opposed to the regular model.
