Fold Faster on GPUs With FahCore_17

A great milestone has been achieved in the area of folding on GPUs with the release of FahCore_17. Currently, it is in public beta and will eventually be rolled out to all supported GPUs once the public Beta testing is done. Here are some highlights:

      1) Faster and more stable than before
      2) Native Linux Support on Nvidia (AMD support will be once the drivers are imrpoved)
      3) Better code base

FAH Highlights and Updates

Over the past week or two, the Folding@Home (F@H) project has undergone some pretty significant changes. We first start off by a new video that explains (in layman terms) what the F@H Project is about and how one can participate. Following the release of this catchy video, a redesigned website is up and running which can be viewed here. On the updated homepage of F@H, you will find the latest public relase of V7.3.6 which has a very easy to understand interface and doesn't require any technical information to set-up. It is cross-platform compatible thus, can run on Windows, Linus and OSX. A brief overview of the new features is available below for those who fancy detailed descriptions. Firefox 16 taken offline due to security issue

Mozilla published Firefox 16 last Tuesday but at present the update is temporarily removed due to a critical security flaw that the company is fixing asap. A patched version of Firefox 16 is expected to become available later this day but as a precaution, Mozilla advises users to downgrade to Firefox 15.0.1 to avoid any risk of getting infected by a potential exploit.

Kupa is about to release the UltraNote Windows 8 tablet in November 2012. The gadget comes jam packed with a 10-inch 1920 x 1200 pixel IPS display with a 10-point multitouch capacitive touch panel, a choice of an Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 Ivy Bridge CPU, up to 8GB of RAM and a choice of a 64GB or 128GB solid state disk. Antec Performance One P280 Now In White

Antec has added three new cases to its Performance One P280 series. It really has become a trend, as such the chassis series is all white, the company reveals an all-white P280 and an all-white P280 with an acrylic side window. The third case has a black/graphite color scheme and also has a side window. All other features are the same as the original P280. You can expect these new cases in retail stores by October 13.

Microsoft to Issue Seven Patches Next Week

Next week on Tuesday Microsoft is going to reelase seven software updates, of which one is rated Critical and the other six Important to address bugs related towards Remote Code Execution, Denial of Service attacks or Elevation of Privileges as the security bulletin states. This advance notification provides a number as the bulletin identifier, because the official Microsoft Security Bulletin numbers are not issued until release. The bulletin summary that replaces this advance notification will have the proper Microsoft Security Bulletin numbers (in the MSyy-xxx format) as the bulletin identifier.

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen said he found Windows 8 puzzling and confusing initially, but is confident that users would eventually learn to like the new operating system. In a post to his personal blog Tuesday -- strangely titled in the third person as, "Paul's take on Windows 8," Allen said he has been running Windows 8 Release Preview -- the public sneak peak Microsoft shipped May 31 -- on both a traditional desktop as well as on a Samsung 700T tablet.

Logitech Harmony Touch Remote Released

Logitech launches its Harmony Touch, a universal remote with a 2.4" touchscreen. This $250 model is limited to IR, it doesn't support RF like the somewhat older Harmony 900, which can already be found for less than the Harmony Touch's MSRP. The Logitech Harmony Touch is a new remote control that greatly simplifies the complex designs found in previous Harmony remotes. It's still a combination of physical buttons and a 2.4-inch color LCD touch screen, but the buttons are larger and fewer in number and the screen takes a more center position on the remote.
