Owned by Infineon, Qimonda's bankruptcy will result in the majority of its 12,000 employees losing their positions, which is on top of the 3,000 job cuts the company announced back in October. Some of these jobs are in the US, though an unspecified number of the employees may be absorbed by Infineon. Qimonda is expected to continue its admittedly crippled operations and restructuring program with the support of a court-appointed preliminary administrator.
Core Temp is a compact, no fuss, small footprint program to monitor CPU temperature. Intel and AMD published detailed, public information about the "DTS" (Digital Thermal Sensor), which provides much higher accuracy and more relevant temperature reading than the standard thermal diode sensors do. In addition, it can read modern CPUs on-die core thermal sensors, as well has hard drives temperature via S.M.A.R.T, and video card GPU temperature. Special hardware monitors such as abit uGuru and Gigabyte ODIN power supplies serie are supported too.
HWMonitor does not need to be installed. Just unzip the files in a directory and run the .exe. In order to remove the program, just delete the files.
The program does not copy any file in any directory, neither writes in the registry.

Corsair Dominator 6GB 1866 MHz DDR3 review

The Georgia Electronic Design Center (GEDC) at the Georgia Institute of Technology has announced a CMOS chip that is capable of transmitting 60GHz RF signals. The technology is claimed to be capable of wireless data-transfer speeds in the multi-gigabit range. Potential applications include high-speed short-range communication between desktop computers, data centers, wireless home audio or video systems, or moving gigabytes of photos and video to and from mobile devices.
The single-chip component integrates a low-power radio with an embedded antenna, while drawing only 100 milliwatts of power. GEDC researchers have experimented with a variety of configurations, reaching speeds up to 15 Gbps at one meter, 10 Gbps at two meters, and 5 Gbps at five meters. Tests also successfully streamed uncompressed 720p or 1080i video.

Microsoft believes Windows 7 will be the tipping point for 64-bit. DailyTech heard over 25 percent of Windows Vista installations in the US at the end of 2008 were 64-bit, and Microsoft thins the majority of Windows 7 installations will be 64-bit.
Jon DeVaan, Senior Vice-President of the Windows Core Operating System Division, agrees. "From our point of view we believe that we have accomplished the tipping point in terms of 64-bit adoption. Now, this happened to a large degree because memory prices are coming down, and another dynamic that we've seen in the United States is that the retail channel is looking to use RAM upgrades as a way to boost margin. So what that means is that 64-bit machine run rate is increasing rapidly, and that means our ability to support those 64-bit machines fully in the broad ecosystem is a really important thing."
Any PC with 4GB of RAM or more must use a 64-bit installation of Windows in order to address the full amount of RAM. Typically a 32-bit installation would recognize a maximum of 3-3.5GB of RAM.
Instead of purchasing a 32-bit version and then having to change to 64-bit later when they purchase more RAM, many are choosing 64-bit at the start. Over 75 percent of Windows sales are based on OEM installations of new computers. The majority of Core i7 platforms are also using 64-bit operating systems, due to the triple channel memory setup using more RAM.

Good news! Barracuda 7200.11 owners can now download a new firmware fix that (hopefully) won't brick their drives. Seagate has put out yet another statement with the latest on the bricking fiasco:
Seagate has isolated a potential firmware issue in limited number of Barracuda 7200.11 hard drives and related SATA drives based on this product platform, manufactured through December 2008.
In some unique circumstances, the data on the hard drives may become inaccessible to the user when the host system is powered on. While we believe that the vast majority of customers will not experience any disruption related to this issue, as part of our commitment to customer satisfaction, Seagate is offering a free firmware upgrade to proactively address those with potentially affected products. This new firmware upgrade corrects compatibility issues that occurred with the firmware download provided on our support website on Jan. 16. We regret any inconvenience that the firmware issues have caused our customers.
