EK Fluid Gaming A240G Liquid Cooling

Aluminum the new trend for liquid cooling?

EK today releases three new models CPU & GPU Liquid cooling kits. Good stuff as we certainly are always interested whenever EK released new gear. Today we test their new EK Fluid Gaming A240G CPU & GPU liquid cooling kit. With this series EK introduces a totally new line of products aimed at a gaming audience that wishes a little more than a heatpipe or LCS cooler, yet will want something affordable.

The new EK Fluid Gaming series is not an AIO solution, this is a proper liquid cooling kit which allows you to make your own loop with tubing, waterblock(s), radiator, fans and a reservoir /pump. We will test the EK Fluid Gaming A240G kit with a Core i7 4790K processor and will add a GeForce GTX 1080 to the loop as well. The end result is pretty interesting as even overclocked, our graphics card would not even pass 55 Degrees C. The radiator, tubing and water-blocks do come with a surprise though, everything is made out of aluminum and/or compatible with it.

It is all Aluminum - So yes, copper is an expensive material to use. This kit is 100% aluminum when it comes to the metal parts. Now I know that for many of you an alarm bell is going off right now. The risk that Aluminum can corrode. This is also known as galvanic corrosion (bimetallic corrosion) and is an electrochemical process in which one metal corrodes preferentially when it is in electrical contact with another, in the presence of an electrolyte. Well the thing is, the kit cannot corrode if you use all-aluminum parts and compatible materials. Hence the A240G kit used (now you know what that A stands for in A240G) is just that, all aluminum. It makes everything light-weight and very cost effective. However, you cannot use any other metals inside that loop. Use distilled water with an additive, but remember, the CPU cooling block may not be used with TIM that is based on liquid metals. Use the TIM supplied in this kit.

You know, in the world of CPU coolers nothing ever stops developing. These days you can select from a hundred different heat-pipe based coolers where many are shaped, formed and priced the same. The better heat-pipe based coolers are good though. Next in line are LCS kits and setups like shown today followed by the real and proper expensive liquid cooling kits. The entry level LCS products are affordable, easy to install pre-fab liquid cooling kits. We've seen and tested many of them as Corsair, Asetek, NZXT, Cooler Master and so on all have interesting kits. EK now is introducing the Fluid Gaming series liquid Cooling kits. These are based on relatively small and compact designs that are easy to install, yet offer great cooling and noise level performance. The new Fluid Gaming series aluminum expands on the aforementioned kits. A kit that is cost effective and easy to use and install. In the first launch wave EK will intro the following three Fluid Gaming series kits:

  • A120 (CPU) kit for processor cooling with 120mm radiator
  • A240 (CPU) kit for processor cooling with 240mm radiator
  • A240G (CPU+GPU) kit for processor cooling with 240mm radiator

All kits come with an AluStream SE radiator, cooling block for the processor, reservoir and pump, and these parts are using 120mm EK-Vardar fans. You'll spot proper tubing and a new type (ALU) EK-Supremacy MX water block to chill your processor. The G model as tested today will include a graphics card cooling block compatible with the Founder Editions GeForce  GTX 1070, 1080, 1080 Ti and Titan X(p). So without further ado, let's head on-wards into the review.
