5760x1080 Multi-Monitor gaming

Gaming on three monitors at 5760x1080

With so much horsepower under the hood and with all the graphics memory available on graphics cards like these it would be a shame not to test multi-monitor performance. Hence we set up three Dell LCD screens and combined the three 1920x1080 monitors to make a resolution of 5760x1080. These days all modern game titles can handle gaming on three monitors, whether or not it is your thing in terms of rendering power needed and stuff like bezels in-between the screens, I'll leave up to you to form an opinion about.

With three monitors we pass 6 MPixels that need to be rendered which is a huge task for any graphics card. At this point, if at all you are using AA, your graphics card will need to have 2 GB of graphics memory at minimum. And with GeForce GTX 770 you get exactly that, 2 GB per card which is marginal if you like to go a little more crazy on image quality.

Example photo's done with Titans

Oh and if you figured 6 sets of PCI Express power connectors were the end of it, we now add three monitor connectors as well. For the SurroundView mode at a monitor resolution of 5760x1080 we take six games from our benchmark suite and fire off the following cards and combinations:

  • GeForce GTX 680
  • GeForce GTX 690
  • Radeon HD 7970 GHz
  • ARES II
  • GeForce GTX 770
  • GeForce GTX 770 SLI
  • GeForce GTX 780
  • GeForce GTX 780 SLI
  • GeForce GTX Titan
  • GeForce GTX Titan 2-Way SLI
  • GeForce GTX Titan 3-Way SLI

Far Cry 3

  • Very High-quality DX11 mode
  • 2x MSAA (Anti-aliasing)
  • 16x AF (Anisotropic Filtering)
Far Cry 3 - As you can see, Titan SLI configurations lead the pack here. The dual 7970 ARES II in Crossfire (4GPU caves in due to driver issues). GeForce GTX 780 SLI manages 47 FPS..

Medal of Honor Warfighter

Medal of Honor Warfighter - Ultra Quality mode and 4xMSAA with DX11 is activated. Again we see the Titan take a nice lead. A quick sidenote on the ARES II - unfortunately Eyefinity in combination with 4 GPUs became very unstable making the game crash and was showing abnormal low framerates, hence the weird ARES II 4 GPU Crossfire result. We've seen this often, 4GPUs is just not recommended.

A single 770 is barely okay in terms of needed performance, at 54 FPS in SLI at this resolution you should be a happy man considering we apply 4x MSAA at a monitor resolution of 5760x1080.

Hitman Absolution

4463_untitled-3

  • DirectX 11
  • High Quality settings
  • 2x MSAA
  • 16x AF
  • Internal benchmark used

Hitman Absolution was my favorite game in December 2012 alongside MOH Warfighter. Unfortunately again we have hit that weird bottleneck as already explained in the previous sessions. 2-way SLI still offers 'okay' scaling.
