Samsung Display has initiated mass production of smaller Quantum Dot Organic Light Emitting Diode (QD OLED) panels, introducing a 27-inch panel featuring an impressive 360Hz refresh rate. These cutting-edge QD OLED monitors are set to hit the market in 2024, courtesy of various manufacturers. The tech giant's initial focus involves the production of 31.5-inch QD OLED panels designed for monitors with a resolution of 3840x2160 pixels and a pixel density of 140 pixels per inch (PPI). Prominent brands like Asus, Alienware, and MSI have already unveiled monitors utilizing this specific panel, with the first monitors of this size expected to debut in 2024. It's worth noting that Samsung Display is currently the sole manufacturer producing QD OLED panels. To achieve the remarkable Ultra High Definition (UHD) resolution, Samsung Display has implemented ultra-precise inkjet printing technology in the quantum dot (QD) light-emitting layer. Through meticulous optimization of the inkjet nozzle and spray volume, the pixel density has been elevated to 140 PPI, equivalent to the pixel density found on a 65-inch 8K TV.

Monitors have a closer viewing distance than TVs, so users’ sensitivity to image quality is particularly high. In the realm of general-purpose monitors in the 30-inch range, the common resolution is Quad High Definition (QHD) at 2560x1440 pixels. Consequently, consumers who prioritize gaming and high-definition video content tend to favor UHD products.

Expanding its offerings, Samsung Display aims to target the rapidly growing gaming monitor market by introducing a 27-inch Quad High Definition (QHD) QD OLED panel with an astonishing 360Hz refresh rate. Notably, this marks the first OLED monitor to achieve such a high refresh rate. The achievement is made possible through Samsung Display's proprietary AI-driven algorithm, Quantum Enhancer. This combination of a peak refresh rate of 360Hz and an ultra-fast response time of 0.03 milliseconds promises an exceptional experience, especially for first-person-shooter (FPS) games, which demand swift screen transitions and pinpoint accuracy.

Samsung Display's strategic plan involves securing new customers and more than doubling QD OLED monitor shipments year-on-year. This ambitious target aligns with its efforts to cater to the premium monitor market with a diverse product lineup, encompassing 27-inch, 31.5-inch, 34-inch, and 49-inch monitors.
