Cyberpunk 2077 2.11 patch brings Performance Core prioritization mode to CPUs

In the latest update, Cyberpunk 2077 introduces the "Hybrid CPU Utilization" feature within the Performance tab. This innovative mode offers gamers with Intel hybrid CPU configurations the ability to make a critical choice regarding their gaming experience—whether to utilize all available CPU cores or prioritize the swiftest CPU cores.

Not all CPUs incorporate a hybrid architecture. Yet, in CPUs that are equipped with 6 or 8 Performance Cores (P-Cores), the benefits of prioritizing these cores are evident. The current configuration of this technology does not allow for the selection of individual cores or Efficient Cores (E-Cores). Users are presented with two options: utilizing all available cores or exclusively using P-Cores. This technology is unique to Intel CPUs, as AMD's architectures, particularly those based on Zen4/Zen4c, do not feature P or E-cores. Furthermore, the CPUs containing the Phoenix2 dies, which target the mid-range market, have limited availability.

The adaptation of this feature by Cyberpunk 2077 stands out, as it surpasses the capabilities of both Microsoft and Intel's thread schedulers. This development underscores the limitations of dynamic core allocation in gaming, suggesting that such allocation does not always achieve optimal results. The introduction of the "Hybrid CPU Utilization" mode is a direct response to this challenge, providing gamers with an enhanced experience by significantly improving gameplay performance.

PC-specific

  • Added a Hybrid CPU Utilization setting, which can be found under Gameplay → Performance. It can be set either to "Auto" (lets the operating system automatically decide how to distribute threads among the cores) or "Prioritize P-Cores" (prioritizes performance cores). It is set to "Auto" by default.
  • Implemented a fix that improves performance, especially on AMD RX Vega GPUs.
