In 2023, the Geizhals price comparison portal conducted an analysis of market trends in consumer electronics, focusing on VR headsets, SSDs, and graphics cards among other categories. The analysis compared average prices from January 1 to December 31, 2023, with those of the previous year, identifying both price increases and decreases across various product categories. The study found that the average consumer prices (in Germany) increased by 5.9 percent in 2023 compared to 2022, which represents a decrease from the 6.9 percent inflation rate observed in 2022. VR headsets and video glasses saw the most significant price increase at 34.17 percent.

Other household appliances also experienced notable price hikes, including hair dryers (14.50 percent), cleaning robots (13.24 percent), and refrigerator-freezer combinations (10.64 percent). Additional increases were observed in washing machines (8.21 percent), dryers (7.79 percent), and motor oil (6.80 percent), all surpassing the general inflation rate. Conversely, certain product categories saw minimal changes or reductions in price. Smartphones experienced a moderate price increase of 4.40 percent, indicating a stabilization in pricing trends. Headphones and headsets increased by only 2.29 percent, while televisions saw a negligible rise of 0.21 percent. Notably, SSDs experienced a significant price drop of 29.01 percent, graphics cards decreased by 7 percent, and memory cards by 3.38 percent.

Markus Nigl, CEO of Geizhals.de, commented on the mixed pricing trends, highlighting both significant increases in electrical products and notable decreases in computer-related products. The findings underscore the dynamic nature of consumer electronics pricing and the value of price comparison tools for informed purchasing decisions.

Gamers have reason to be happy again
After the very tense situation on the graphics card market during the pandemic, prices have now fallen significantly by almost 50 percent. After strong price fluctuations , the Sony PlayStation 5 has now stabilized in price after a long time. For this product in particular, it is worth taking a look at the price development . Xbox players now buy cheaper: Microsoft Xbox Series X consoles now cost around 6 percent less. The positive price trend for consumers is explained by the increased availability of these products, which only a year ago had to cope with exceptionally long waiting times for delivery.
