DX11: Thief

DX11: Thief 2014

Thief is a series of stealth video games in which the player takes the role of Garrett, a master thief in a fantasy/steampunk world resembling a cross between the Late Middle Ages and the Victorian era, with more advanced technologies interspersed. Thief is the fourth title in the Thief series, developed by Eidos Montreal anda published by Square Enix. The story is set several hundreds of years after the events of the original series in the same universe (clues to the backstory are hidden among documents, plaques, and letters). The original master thief Garrett's (known as the legendary master Sneak Thief) iconic Mechanical Eye is one of the hidden Unique Loots in the game (and can be found inside of a prison complex he apparently failed to escape). Other iconic factions such as the Keepers and Hammerites and other old gods have been outlawed, and now lie in ruins throughout the city and beneath.

So what you are going to see a lot is that in the lower resolutions the Titan Z can keep up well, but in Ultra HD the Radeon R9 295x2 absolutely is the faster card. It has a lot to do with the recent Nvidia driver improvement that freed up a lot of CPU overhead allowing better performance for lower resolutions as there is less CPU cycle overhead.

We'll look more in-depth at ultra HD gaming in a separate chapter.

WHQD is a resolution of 2560x1440. It is by far the most popular monitor resolution for the high-end. Excellent performance really, the card is pushing a nice 71 FPS at this resolution, with these rather good image quality settings. What you'll also see a lot is that the GeForce GTX 780 Ti SLI configuration is always faster, sometimes it even dominates the Titan Z as it has less heat to deal with and will not clock down, but in fact boost even higher in clock frequency.

Thief is one of the very few titles where Titan Z was faster opposed to Radeon R9 295x2. At Ultra HD, the Radeon R9 295x2 is almost always faster.
