14 - 9600 GT Point of View (1)

Point of View GeForce 9600 GT 512 MB

The good folks from Point of View submitted their retail (standard) version of the 9600 GT. This means a better price compared to for example the Galaxy product you just have been able to observe. Standard also means, reference and the product therefore follows everything 100% compared top that NVIDIA reference model. When we check the BIOS values we notice indeed a 650 MHz core frequency and 1800 MHz memory frequency.

Performance wise since the 9600 GT already is pretty impressive so you'll hardly notice a difference between the OC version and the reference products. Point of View (PoV) will obviously also release their "EXO" model soon with even better clocks.

Bundled you'll notice the usual (we'll take a look in a second). POV included a HDMI adapter by the way, me likes that very much.

Also something very interesting; a little birdie told me that at the end of March a really spectacular game is going to be bundled for free with this product giving it a really good value!, I just can't disclose just yet which game. Anyway, the product as presented today in Europe will be available for a really sharp price at 169 EUR (that's inc VAT), and that's the 512MB model, and later on with that game.

The nice thing about POV is that they'll offer you a three year warranty on this product (in Europe that is a lot these days)! So overall a reference based product with a pretty awesome bundle and warranty. Let's have a look at it and obviously you'll learn about how well it performs in our benchmark sessions later on in this article.

First up, packaging and bundle. We got the nasty old troll on the box :) Included in the packaging we can find:

  • GeForce 9600 GT 512 MB
  • Driver CD
  • 6-pin to Molex power cable
  • manual / quick install guide
  • VGA->DVI dongle
  • HDMI > DVI dongle

As stated expect a nice free game roughly at the end of March. Until that time this is it though.

Here we also see DVI connectors, dual-link DVI of course. With the 7-pin HDTV-out mini-din, a user can plug an S-video cable directly into the connector, or use a dongle for YPrPb (component) or composite outputs. The prior 9-pin HDTV-out mini-din connector required a dongle to use S-video, YPrPb and composite outputs. I think by next year we'll see the cards with one HDMI connector on there.

Until that time, you are looking at HDMI/DVI connectivity or the usage of a HDMI dongle; which POV included.
