Geekom A5 Mini PC Series

Geekom is a company based in Taiwan, offering you (mainly) a vast range of Mini PCs. We got an A5, based on the Ryzen 7 5800H. It features plenty of flexibility with user-upgradeable RAM (up to 64 GB) and storage (up to 2 TB M.2 2280 and 2 TB 2.5” SATA drive). Released in 2021, the AMD Ryzen7 5800H processor features eight powerful CPU cores that can reach clock speeds of up to 4.4GHz. It is a powerful mini PC with a generous amount of 32 GB DDR4 DRAM (3200 MHz) and a 512 GB NVMe SSD with expandability (and/or adding a SATA drive). There are no color variants; “only” rose is available. There is only one configuration, so there is no choice of CPU, SSD, or RAM capacity. Windows 11 Pro is preinstalled. The CPU, manufactured with TSMC’s 7nm process technology, boasts 16 working threads and a 16MB L3 cache. It supports:

  • Windows 10 - 64-Bit Edition
  • RHEL x86 64-Bit
  • Ubuntu x86 64-Bit

A5 is small, W x L x H (11.7 cm x 11.2 cm x 4.9 cm), so hiding it behind the monitor/TV should be easy. The weight is 652 g. A5 features one 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet connector (Realtek RTL8125), WIFI 6, Bluetooth 5.2 (both covered via Realtek 8852BE), 3x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, 2x USB 3.2 Gen 3.2 Type-C, 1x USB 2.0 Type-A, and 2x HDMI 2.0b ports (with 4K60/8K 30 support). There’s also an SD card reader. Our kit is fitted with RAM (32 GB) and an SSD (512 GB) and is based on the AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 integrated GPU. The maximum GPU Clock is 2 GHz. The A5 with 8 cores/16 threads AMD Ryzen 7 5800 H should be enough for most activities on the MiniPCs. It’s quite an energy-friendly platform, as the CPU TDP is at 35 W. The Windows 11 Pro is preinstalled, so that’s a great deal. We’re testing the unit as supplied by Geekom, an official distributor of this kit.
