The Monitor
We received this PG43UQ series monitor merely a week or so ago. You can spot them in retail in the EMEA at an 1500 Euros with a close to similar price level in USD.
The PG43UQ series offers a rather massive size 43" display and is G-SYNC compatible in combination with HDR at 144 Hz. The VA panel used very likely originates from AU Optronics with WLED backlight. The panel is capable of recreating colors across 90% DCI-P3, 125% sRGB (DCI-P3 is a color gamut the film industry uses these days).
- Size: 43in
- Resolution: 3840x2160
- Refresh Rate: 144Hz
- Panel: VA
- Response time: 1ms MPRT
- DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0
- Rated Brightness: 1000 cd/m² HDR peak brightness
- Contrast Ratio (static): 4000:1
- Power Consumption: 48W
That power consumption value seems to low for a panel of this size + HDR1000 rating. We'll check that out more in-depth in our testing.
Quick note; if you're thinking of purchasing a GeForce graphics card compatible for GSYNC, please do be aware that it is Freesync compatible as well, so the monitor can handle both brands when it comes to its adaptive refresh rate. The monitor arrives in a large, full-color box. Included are cables (HDMI/DP/USB) and a manual as well as a LED logo projector.
So, a VA screen might not be the favorite type of panel for some, others love it and yes there's little more complicated than panel preference for the hardcore gaming community. However one cannot deny the fact that this one is capable of 144Hz, HDR and is Ultra HD at a 43"size, the advantages are clear, especially with adaptive sync in mind and that sheer screen size.
The monitors is built with ABS plastic, the characteristic identity that ASUS offers means a trendy foot adorns this monitor. The display makes use of a ROG design and feel that clearly appeals to the target audience, PC gamers with a soft spot for ROG. There is a fairly large and thick plastic bezel though. The monitor includes HDMI 2.0 and a DisplayPort 1.4 connector as well as a USB 3.0 hub.
At the backside, an ROG logo and shielding design alongside some ventilation. There are no fans we can hear.
