Considering AVG, McAffee, and Norton are also on this list, I'm going to take it with the entire salt shaker.

I got a virus after using a dodgy version of Poweriso.exe that was on an old disc. Defender did nothing so i had to install Kaspersky AV. So now i use Kaspersky Free and also use Malwarebytes as a back up scanner. Win 10 Defender failed me but luckily for me the virus was only a spyware/malware and not a full on system take over. Again luckily for me i use UAC on the lowest setting these days, i say that because i used to turn it off all together. I now think it's one of the best tools out there because it was UAC that warned me of changes the virus tried to make.

Though Robert has a lot of valid points, I wouldn't wholly take his advise, either. As Reddoguk pointed out, Windows Defender isn't sufficient. I would say it's probably the best free and non-invasive option, but I question if it's even good enough to protect grandma at those moments where she believes in being the 1 millionth visitor or sympathizes with Nigerian royalty. Personally, I don't use any AV at all.

Why is Nod 32 excluded from thth list?

Yep, for me, the best AV is the one between the chair and keyboard. Defender is sufficent for me. I don't trust 3rd party AVs as much. I think some may be even responsible for creating malware. Or have flaws that some malware take advantage of.

AVG is the biggest virus going 😀 interesting no panda or symantec endpoint protection. Been using bit-defender past 2 years and never got a virus! (queue antivirus jokes)

Well, at least it actually works. I don't install Kaspersky because it's horrendously bloated and I don't want to pay for a license, but, their bootable rescue CD has been great at fixing badly infected computers. No need to worry about backdoors with it, either, and, it's free.

That's quite a smart cat you have there.

You don't have to buy any license for Kaspersky labs AV anymore, they got rid of the 12 month trial and is now fully free. As for it being bloated thats wrong too, AVP.exe is using just 45000K. Yes i worry about it being Russian but i find it very light weight and high on the list of detecting things.

Haven't needed any other AV software since 2004. Just MSE, then Defender. Cant believe people still install potential adware crap.

I use Windows Defender. Enough for me. I know some people live in the past, but it improves with every release of windows 10 update. I am just surprised it affects performance this much. I know all Antivirus affect performance to a certain degree and I definitely saw my computer running slower with it enabled, but ya... I kinda find it funny when someone claim that "I don't notice any slowdowns at all!" "My antivirus doesn't slow down my computer!". But seriously, with smartscreen filter, Windows Defender, WDAG, Windows Firewall and UAC, etc... Windows 10 is quite secure. I don't know how Edge stacks up when it comes to security though.

Ugh Kaspersky. Does Kaspersky still have problems with this site frontpage? At one point they injected sentinels into arbitrary site code, preventing CSS from finishing messing up the page.

HH, i have never had any problem with this site and Kaspersky Free 19.0.0, front page loads fine and of course for this site i turn adblocker off. In my personal experience Kaspersky AV free version uses about half the memory Defender does, which is important for me because i'm poor and have only 8gigs of ram 🙁
