Oh dear. Not getting a penny out of me for that POS.

I don't have a need for it. I'm perfectly fine using Windows 7 until is becomes EOL.

I paid $15 to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro which I have had no issues with, so it was a good deal.
Currently Windows 8 Pro is selling on Microsoft's website for $39.99.
Microsoft is increasing that price to 5 times what it is now and over 13 times what I paid for it... Increase the price astronomically great marketing strategy!
Under Microsoft's current policy retailers are able to sell boxed copies of Windows 7 until Oct. 26, 2013 and offer new PCs with Windows 7 installed until Oct. 26, 2014.
Once Windows 7 retail discs become rare I expect their price will also go up astronomically, which is what happened with Windows XP Pro several months after Vista launched.

If it didn't sell at the discounted price guess it won't sell at all at the new price
I'm also glad it's not compatible with our FAS 2020's and CIF shares, that means we won't be using it anytime soon in our school, hurrah!!

Another reason to not buy win8... Windows 7 runs fine.

Got Windows 8 for $15 a pop (got 2 copies as well). Running pretty good I must say, the only gripe is still the Start Screen but I've learned to adapt to it. It's all good.

So basically people are hating on windows 8 just because of the start screen, cause honestly i can't think of anything else.
Not liking the start menu (call it Metro) aside, which i can understand, windows 8 is just a better windows 7.
- faster boot.
- native usb 3.0 support
- native .iso support (no more daemon tools)
- better task manager
- better windows explorer, a lot better and customizable if you ask me...
- the sync option with a microsoft account to sync your own personalized settings is great
- the search it's way better displayed and organized
- repair functions
- less resources hungry (personally i see less ram usage).
I don't understand the hate, it's just a freaking menu, which you can skip with a registry tweak.
Not to mention, that clicking the left low corner is faster than clicking on the start button (if you don't like to press the windows button instead), cause you don't even need to look at it. The start menu pops out instantly.
I hate the Metro crap too, but it doesn't bother my desktop experience at all.
If you're a Vista user, or even worse a XP one, windows 8 is a must for that price.
By the way, with the upgrade you can also do a clean install.

Wow. And you know, I almost would have considered it if I ever bought a SSD and did a fresh install.
No way am I ever paying 200 with talks of "Windows Blue" coming out one day. And this just shows they have no plans whatsoever for future versions of Windows being low price upgrades. Enjoy your 100 some dollars a year to keep it fresh with Microsoft.
