I really hope this service pack has a bunch of fixes for my old games, I could dual boot but preferred with a single OS. I will NOT give up Red Alert2 and Yuris Revenge.

In what way are they incompatible? Do you know of a place I can buy these digital download? I don't want to use a CD/DVD in the drive. I have just gone to Windows 8 and it does feel smoother and less stutter for BF4 than 7 was.

You can buy C&C ultimate pack on amazon for Origin .. $5. Kinda redundant as everything prior to RA2 has gone for free :P

Missing shut down button? I just right click in the bottom left and I can pick shutdown, sigh out, restart ect.

You can buy C&C ultimate pack on amazon for Origin .. $5. Kinda redundant as everything prior to RA2 has gone for free :P

Sadly it is £24 here and I already have the most modern 3 apart from C&C4. Still don't know what sort of incompatibility there is meant to be. If it's a disk problem then maybe the Ultimate pack would solve that.

Could be that mouse cursor thing which they changed in 8.1. You can still buy from US Amazon if you use an American billing address and it goes on sale every other month so just setup a price alert and you're good to go.

I made iso backups for my games and run virtual disks so need for no dvd or cd cracks, sorry I wasnt clear on the issue, Red alert 2 and yuris revenge run great on W7 sp1, installed w8.1 and its running like its on an old 486, lagging like crazy. Tried multiple video drivers , xp compatability mode, tried running from my cds and the same outcome. Installed w7 again and red alert2 runs normally.

Thanks for the tip. I gotta admit I didn't look for long (I think I just used Alt+F4 while the focus was on the desktop). Maybe I got too lazy...

That missing shutdown button was one of the things that I found annoying when I tried Windows 8. A friend of mine, for whom I bought a laptop, found it impractical not to have such a button on the "home" screen. I really don't know what M$ is thinking with their latest OS. The whole thing smells of "too little, too late" to me.

And at the same time when Android has limitations it doesn't matter because you can customize it and you have 3rd party apps or custom ROMs that fix the problems. Since when people stopped customizing Windows? All leaked stuff including start menu is very easy to get. There are tons of free and commercial options.

all charms can already be turned off and you can set to the os to boot straight to desktop yourself, i will not pay for start8 when all it does is change those things automatically and adds a start button which is there in windows 8.1 anyway, it took me 2 mins to show someone who was stuck on xp and didnt really know how to use a pc let alone upgrade to use the start button for shutdown/restart its really that simple

are you talking about how slow the game runs on windows 8? there is a fix but the fix speeds the game up too much on my system. as soon as it starts, I lose. maybe they will get tired of me complaining about it and fix the bug. and about the updates to windows 8 Im waiting for the window mode for the apps to see if they did a better job then stardock. and how many updates will it take to make this system perfect.?

Your construction yard and other buildings blow up after around 30 seconds?

I ended up going back to BF3 because BF4 is just unplayable for me. Constant crashes and random freezes.

no the game ran so fast the A.I had it forces built and attacked me in less than 1 min. I didnt even have a chance to build anything.

I have 2 Win 8.1 PCs. Main rig File server I have set up Wake On Lan for the File server which works fine however the server refuses to auto sleep after the sleep timeout on it's own (both systems have fresh installs on them) http://www.eightforums.com/general-support/28226-windows-8-1-refuses-sleep.html this thread here has 67 pages and no universal solution. I've wasted many hours trying to solve this. At the moment my situation is I've downgraded the File server to Windows 8 Pro (main rig still 8.1 Pro), changed the usual settings for sleep/WOL/magic packet/when sharing media allow the computer to sleep etc and sleep IS working. However as soon as I share a drive from server to main rig the server will not go to sleep. Not sure where to go from here 😕
