Plot twist. Another nudge to make people move to W11.

By the time people need Wi-Fi 7 Windows 10 is long dead... sadly.

Win12 might be available by the time Wi-fi 7 offers any value to lots of people.

Wi-Fi 7 will offer value right from the start, out of the box. The biggest selling point for me is, that 2,4 and 5ghz (and 6ghz) will connect at the same time, and so offering better speed almost always, and even more important, if it is a mobile / moving device, it won't need to switch from 5 to 2,4 if you are too far away. At least this is how I imagine it.

and at that time there will be Wi-Fi 9 :v Anyway, nothing and no-one prevents other OEMs to provide Wi-Fi 7 drivers for Windows 10 anyway...

I forgot Win 10 even exists. Who is even using Win 10 in 2023? Even granny's laptop has Win 11. If any "enthusiast" is using such outdated software it's just shameful. And crying about companies not wanting to develop drivers for EOL OS is even more silly.

I'm curious, do people use WiFi on desktops? I've always used a wired connection, and have largely ignored the developments in WiFi. I'm sure this is very pertinent to laptops, but I rarely require much bandwidth for any work or entertainment that I'd use my laptop for.

I've been using Wi-Fi on my desktop for ages. I've even upgraded it regularly in my old PC. I'm not sure I will be able to upgrade in my current one as it does not have an X1 slot, and these cards usually don't work in bigger slots, but I'll try. I don't have cabling at home and putting a cable from my pc to the router would be ugly, and my wife would never allow it 🙂

I have my Gaming PC, my PS5 and my HTPC plugged in via LAN but three TVs, my home work PC and a laptop all operate on WiFi.

68% of Os users use Win 10, followed by 18% using Win 11 so it is a big deal, but by the time 2025 and Wi-Fi 7 rolls out it will probably be 48%-38%. I am one of the 18% and can't wait for Wi-Fi 7 to come out, 2.5 times the speed and twice the band width over Wi-Fi 6 what's not to like?

No one cares if 68% with potato computers are using Win 10, they don't have Wi-Fi 7 or even have hardware fast enough to utilize such throughput speeds. So this is a non issue, because this problem solves itself when people upgrade hardware along with new Windows.

I also use a wired connection for my PC. WI-FI is for my consoles and laptop.

Hardware for Wifi6 is extremely expensive, can't imagine Wifi7. Not to mention, only W11 support? How about handheld devices? s/ They can keep their Wifi7 as I just migrated from Wifi4 to Wifi5 this year, so I'm not worried one bit. My next upgrade must be a mesh system, that's the thing that's nagging me right now.

10 Gbps ethernet cards exist since 2002, 100 Gbps - since 2010, so you can post noob exclamations on some non-tech forums.

This is a thread about Wifi7, not some obscure ethernet cards 🙄

You claimed that hardware on PCs with Win10 is not ready for WiFi7 speeds, I showed that high speed networking is present since 2002 (and comparable to max speed of WiFi7 - since 2010). So you can be sure that general gamer`s PCs with Win10 are more than capable to handle WiFi7.

what a ridiculous thing to add to the spec, unfortunately for ieee, i'm pretty sure there is litterally nothing they can do to prevent a manufacturer from providing drivers for an operating system like windows 10, i wouldnt be surprised if there ends up being win7 drivers for chinese wifi 7 chips.

Wifi and ethernet aren't the same. Also, "general gamer" should be using the latest OS, not stubbornly running OS that soon will stop getting security fixes, and crying every time something doesn't support their legacy OS.
